Rust SUCKS!
When I bought my 92 X, the head gaskets were out so the owner gave me a new motor for it. Well We started work on it wedsday night. We didn't hit any snags until we go to the exhaust manifolds. They had a 3/4 inch of road salt rust on there! We poured half a quart of wd-40 on it and we tried an impact hammer on it for a few hours and nothing worked. So then we tried a impact chizzel. no luck. so then we had to disconnect the exhaust manifolds from the motor and take it out that way and then attack the headers. Well we tried and tired no luck on getting them. Luckily im good friends with a machinist and he owed me a favor so we had to disconnect the drive lines and then towed it down to his shop with no hood no motor. we got it down there and then he came out and zap zap..the right one was off.. and zap zap..the left one was off..!! We spent two days trying to get it off! So all that needs to be done now is to put the motor in and connect it up. It was a tough motor to get out becuase on top of all that the fan was rusted on there and we couldnt get it off! but when the motor was out we got it off.. the rust was so bad on the motor that was took a screw driver and we can jam the valve covers and go right through it! But we came to find out that my new tranny has dual tranny coolers and a brand new fly wheel , starter, torque conver that doesnt fully kick in until 2800 rpm's. The reason it had so rust is becuase it was a minnesota truck that was never cleaned under the chassis.
So everyone learn from the previous owners mistake and in the winter time keep your chassis clean! It may be a pain but hey, it will save you lots of time and MONEY! You will be doing yourself a favor..
On top of all that..does anyone need any internal 4.0 OHV parts?
