I have had a 2" lift put on my 1993 ford ranger 4x4. Tires were changed from 27s to 31s. Took it back today for the new tires (31s) and allignment. Part way through the allignment they said they could not adjust the camber any better than it was (off by 4%) specifications they are using recommend .08%. Now they want to soak me for another $400.00 for a bracket to fix this!! Does anyone have any other suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of bracket did they want to sell you? Drop brackets for the beams? They should be able to get camber shims to align it properly, but I don't know how much those are. I doubt they are $400 though.

thanks for the reply, the mechanic I trust (and who also did the install) was off today. I am going to talk to him tomorrow. Yes, I do believe it was a drop bracket for the beams. this gives me some hope...

2" is said to be the max you can go without drop brakcets. Every truck is different though, so you might be unlucky and need them. Make sure to ask him if he used the max camber shims possible to try and align it. If he did, then you will need the brackets.

Good luck.

that year doesnt use shims... it uses a bushing alignment

Get your truck back ! Quick!

True but alot of people here use the two words interchangeably.

camber issue

you ussully dont have to put axle pivot drop arms on till you get to 3'' susp. lift.the biggest camber bushing avail is 2 degree so it might get you close enough.the axle droparms come in 2 ranges [3'' ldrop and 6'' drop ] if you use the drop arms with out suficiant lift then the camber goes way in the negitive .also when you lift the truck the caster goes way in the neg. [truck will wander and the steering will feel loose.to fix that you need radius arm drop brackets.they make the truck feel real good and responsive.these 2 drop brackets will get you in the ballpark and let you use the caster/camber bushing to fine tune the settings, aka pull or drift.as a note if you go to a deeper ofset rim ,the extra leverage will load the springs more and the truck looses some of the lift.a cheap way get a little more lift is to make to go under the front spring, dont use the plastic rings they sell they just sqeeze out and break, also when it squeeses out it leaves that big spring nut loose.i mke mine out of 3''water pipe about 1'' high and tack weld a 3'' washer on the top of the pipe, this is about as far as you can go and still get the spring retainer nut back on. 25 years in the buisness so take it on faith.if found these brackets on e-bay and craigslist cheap .so good luck and happy hunting turbo

thanks, took it back today. The mechanic I trust was there. He said since it was only an 1 1/2 lift over stock that I should not need this (bracket). (the new springs actually lifted the front 3" due to the old ones being worn out). He told me to drive it for a couple more weeks and beat the crap out of it! :) "This should settle the new springs some more" I am then supposed to return so they can check the tires and rotate them if necessary. He was also able to adjust the camber some more so it would not wear to bad on the new tires.
