lifted 2003 exploder

The kid in town with the lifted 3rd gen has some coilovers on the front, giving about 3" of lift. The rear is lifted only about 1.5" with some adjustable coil spring spacers like used on lowered imports(you can get them from truckin.com). He couldnt go higher because of the fact that the axles run through the frame rails. But let it be known that this truck HAS NEVER been off road, and probably never will be.

justin146, any chace we can get a pic of that kids truck. Also what size tires is he runing?

A concern i know of wich is suposidly why daystar never produced theyr spacers was ball joint wear. I assume similar reasons were had with ranchos longer coilovers.
Another issue is hows his ride? with only about 5-5.5" travel droping the center point of that 1.5 inches really cuts down on available down travel.

Someone had sugested ball joint spacers could be used with coil-spacers as a possibility, anyone have more info on that?

i was just at airbagit.com. then went to lifted trucks -> Ford -> 4"-10" lifts. They have a 4.5" lift for '02+ explorers for around $1650. It's says that is a prototype. This may be worth checking into. By the way what is the deal with these suspensions. One guy told me that it had some thing to do with computerized ride control???. Another said "The rear half is the problem"
The rear half is the problem. the axle shafts run through a hole in the frame limiting its range of travel. 4.5 isnt posible within this range i dont think unless theyre droping the pumphin below the frame rails.

Unfortuneately the bottom line is the 3rd gens really werent ment for anything other then grocery geting.

im giving this a bump sein if we cant dig up any more information here. Ive been tryin to figure out spacers, but all ive come up with thus far is replacement part numbers.

You guys need to get together and get Perry's Fab and Fiber to make some 3rd gen glass fenders. Then you could probably run a 285 tire without rubbing. Not a lift, but larger tires would help alot.

alright, heres a stupid observation i made today. The ball joint angle on the front can be retaned when using spacers with a ball joint spacer because the spindle and uper a-arm sitto the inboard side of the wheen and tire. This aparently is out of the question in the rear as the rear ball joint is actually inside of the wheel. Now theres some room in there, but it dosnt seem like all that much.

thats about all the insight i have for now...

I contacted Baja Fabrications and they are willing to make glass fenders for 3rd gens. They said that if we get a group buy together, they will make the mold ASAP. The company's email is bajafabrications@hotmail.com

I think the lift like that, prerunner style looks gay... Why have the front end that high in the air and have the rear drag'n??? Just my 2 cents... I love lifted trucks but that is like putting 44's on front and 35 on back... Just wrong.

I have 265/75/16 on my 03 xlt... they fit no problem just fits though, can't go any biger with out lift. they do not rub.. regarding the lift i dont think it's body, when you remove the running boards you see that amount of frame on stock exploere.... also i don't know if anyone has tried or though of this yet but if you made a bracket (two piece of flat bar with pipe welded in the middle) removed the shock and bolted the bracket in the stock shock holes, then drilled holes in the flat bar and bolted the shock up higher you could get away with probly 2 or 3 in lift in front and back and still have clearnce for your side axel to pass through the frame rails in the rear....

So, it might be possible to have some brackets fabed, and you could theoretically drop the rear diff. and swing arms so the axle shafts are below the frame? just wondering. I have been looking at the setup under there. Not sure if it is possible. I think the front would be pretty easy copared to the rear. I am sort of new to the SL business so I may be off my nut a mile and a half. Would love to hear some thoughts. It did occur to me that the axle may hit the frame on the upstroke?

Hey I was looking at this web site (http://www.stylinconcepts.com/part.aspx?partid=507643&scid=froogle) and they have a couple lift kits for the 3rd generation explorer but it does say that it reduces the life of the front drive shaft. But look on here because they have seperate ones for 2002 and 2003+ But I just thought I would put this link on here. Also it has to be 4wd.

It will never happen. Too much fabrication involved. You want a lifted 4door X by a pre-2002 or buy a 2002+ 2door.

those coils should work, i saw a nissan SUV with a 6 inch lift that had the independent rear. The guy said it used a drop bracket, and its from fabtech i believe, so i am wondering if that can be modified to fit the exploders.

Here's that same site's "prototype" lift kit for the Explorer.

"prototype"

the stylin concept kit say it comes with leaf springs? what the hell, we NEED to figure out how to lift these things! NOW!

good guys? dumb guys!

Very obviously a body lift. Look at all that frame showing.

They have a lot of Explorers on their lot.

I called them and they could not tell me how they where lifted, the guy sais that it had a (FULL) lift on it ? so i said what does that mean is it a body, is it a suspension or coil over or what? and he said he had no idea!

EXACTLY!!!! thats why everyone should stop making calls and doing favors and **** because it will never work, as long as 02+ ex's have half shafts and IRS then its no use without MAJOR fab work....
