Im interested in the lightning style exhaust for my 4.0 OHV. What would be a good way to do this? single in/dual out flowmaster? what about straight pipes and stock cats? could i pass emissions? what would sound the best? any help is appreciated! sorry i forgot to mention i wanted both to exit in front of the right rear tire

hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you cant chose that as your exit point unless you want to run straight pipes, which sounds horrid imho with the 4.0. just not enough room with the secondary cats. take those out, then you hit emmission problems, but gain room. run a flowmaster 40-50 series to get the sound

do you have a picture or something of how yours is ran? thanks for the help

4.0 Ohv

GT... From what I have discoverd your best option is to get after market cats, primary and secondary to leave your exhaust in stock style fashion and simply use a 40-50 serries flowmaster or magnaflow to get the sound. From my understanding if you put straight pipes on a 4.0 ohv it may kill your gas mileage and or take away from your hp because straight pipes dont provide enough back preasure for the OHV... but thats just me you may experience something totally different.....

So hows the weather up there in Dawsonville?

yeah, actually. the first bend is directly after the cat.

armymatt- yea im more than likely going to have to run it that way. weather is kinda crappy been raining all day but we need the rain

nssj2- thanks for the pics! yours is straight pipe, no muffler? (is that a cat in the pic or a muffler?) i know yours is a v8, so i thought it might be straight pipes

yeah, no muffler here. i figured the 4 cats work well enough as resonators. good luck on your project

thanks! all i need now is a good digital camera for pictures and money for mods ;)

I ran it like that for a short time, it is loud no doubt, does not sound bad at idle, but any higher and it starts to sound raspy and not as good, kind of like an airplane. I liked the look of it, girlfriend didn't care to have the exhaust right at her knees when getting in and out tho. I found that resonation in the cab is not that bad as long as it exits outside the the body, if it stays under the body then it resonates badly. The only way to do this would be to run it with out a muffler with a single pipe. Even with the single pipe, it looked good, atleast to me, but you WILL NOT pass any kind of inspection without a muffler. Oh you can do this yourself for about $25. Just cut the pipe right in front of the muffler, and I mean right at the muffler so you have room to clamp a 90 degree bend to. Then clamp another 90 degree bend to that, so that it runs towards the rear of the vehicle, then add a turndown to it. Or you can probably get some of that flex pipe and run that in the direction you need and clamp a turndown on the end of that. If you crawl under there, you will see what you will need to do it. Don't forget exhaust hangers too. The trick is getting past the frame and back up towards the body so it doesn't hang down too low. Like I said, I used 2 90 degree elbows, a turndown, hanger kit, and clamps.

that sounds like its worth a try for only 25 dollars. if i dont like it, ill just cut it off then get a flowmaster or something. thanks for the info!

with a OHV and 2 cats you can run a muffler... the ohv only has 2 cats... this is a OHV with stock cats and a dynomax super turbo muffler...

Its easier to do with the 4 door models, the sports with the shorter wheelbase are a lot harder to run the exhaust like that unless the muffler is extremely short.

Whitelimited- i couldnt see your pic

Hunterdan- if i shortened the length between the last cat and the flowmaster, then did the 2 90 bends with the turndown, would that work? i know i would have to do some hangers, but what about sound with the sound with the 2 90 bends? Im more interested in a deep throaty sound rather than loudness

I didn't realize you had a 4 door, since you do, you might be able to get it in there with the muffler.

Here's mine as another example.

Mounty (4-door, obviously)
5.0L
Rr cats removed; Flowmaster "SUV Muffler" attached just aft of Fr cats.
