Does anyone know any company that produces lockers for explorers. I have a 96 explorer XLT 4x4 and I can't find any company that produces lockers of any type for my SUV. If anyone could help me I would really appreciate it, By the way this forum is awesome

I know many like thier powertrax. You can find the Powertrax for the 8.8 almost anywhere.

This little topic just reminded me of earlier today, when I was out urban offroading and came upon a nice tall and long pile of clay like dirt, and proceeded to fool around in it, until i got stuck.

I get out and look and my front left is airborn and back right is airborn, I bottomed out, no biggie. My back left is just sitting there crunched into the ground. And I think to myself WTF!!! I have a Eaton LS in the back of that thing, it shouldn't be sitting there without turning.

That's about it, any ideas or comments.....

Sure it's only an LS 70% , but still should the tire literally be not moving at all like that? I floored it and it looked like a little kid kicked it, and that's about all it moved.

That's why you go with a locker instead of an LS. You may have been applying some power to the wheel that wasn't moving, but it wasn't enough to overpower the frictional force.

Shooter808, go with the Powertrax No-Slip like SSIKORA said. It works great. Easy install (no ring and pinion setup) and they cost about $400 or so. You can get them from a lot of places. Try Central 4WD or Dead Link Removed or Randy's Ring and Pinion . If I remember right, Randy's gives discounts to members of this site. I bought mine from him.

Well I should of gone with my instict when I bought it, I wanted to get a True Locker, but everyone and there dog, that I talked to said get an LS it'll be more streat friendly, won't clunk, blah blah. Sure it's more street friendly and quiet, I don't hear it at all. But with my tires making noises and my stereo, and the fact that I don't really listen for my diff clunking. I wish I would of gone with the Powertrax like I wanted to in the first place.

Also I was told that an LS is better for Mud/Sand which is most of the stuff I do, maybe it is maybe it isn't, I haven't really driven a locked rear to really know. But seems to me, that Powertrax is the way to go.

IMHO, a LS is NOT better for mud/sand. I'd rather have both wheels turning with 100% power. There is a little clunking from the Powertrax, but once you learn how to drive it, it's almost transparent except for a little bit of tire squeal occasionally when cornering.

What about the Eaton elocker? I was told that that was the way to go. Being able to turn it on and off so as to have the street friendly side and the offroad side.
