Just thought you might want a few tips.

First: I have never seen a 12v LED. If they exist I can imagine they are pretty expensive. Also, you don't need 12v, you need 14.5v. That is what the car runs at when the alternator is running. I just recently did a similar project by making LED indicator lights on a offroad light switch panel. I used 3v LEDs. A resistor can step 14.5 down to the correct voltage. I used 270 ohm resistors. If you need help determining what resistance you need, let me know.

Second: Voltage doesn't necessarily determine how bright they will be. wattage and more importantly Candlepower determine that.

Third: Don't buy from Radio Shack. They charge $3.00 for what you can get for $0.17. I shop from a place called Mouser Electronics. I bought 60 LEDs for like $10. I also got some sweet switches and a breadboard.

One more thing.

The longer wire on the LED is the positive. Attach the resistor to there.

LOL, I can use all of the tips someone can give. But I have no idea what you just said and it only confuses me more, LOL. I did by-pass Radio Shack because of there prices. And this is not as easy as replacing 194 bulbs with LED's, I did that with no problems. I want to make my overhead lights shine a nice bright clear white light. What do you recommend? All suggestions and tips are greatly appreciated. I certainly do not want to waste my money and have to do the same job twice.

I just got back from radio shack and they want like $1.47 for 2! That is a lot if I need like 50 of them not to mention the resistors and the board! I was going in there like it was only going to be like $10 for everyting not $50! I don't like to order stuff off ebay because you can't trust people now these days but is there a cheaper solution? I realy like what you did and I would like to do the same thing but those led's are killing me. (I am a cheap ass, don't get mad.) LOL!

Yes Radio Shack is a rip. Their LED's are also low quality. You can do eBay or some online places have them.

www.oznium.com has them cheap and bright. Supposedly 3 are supposed to equal a 15in neon tube, i have yet to order any to personally test em out, but ive been thinking about it

I was thinking that all of those led's would draw more current than that light that came stock with the truck. So wouldn't that cause the stock wireing to melt down and cause a fire???

phil, the guy there will give you the right resistor to drop the voltage for an extra 5 cents each when you go to order the led you can just select + resistor from the drop down selector
OR
you can wire the leds in clusters of 3 in parallel either works

So would this be correct then if I am using some 16,000mcd LED's? This is what the seller recommends for me to do in a vehicle for the application I am trying to install.
You should put 3 White LEDs in series with a 270 Ohm resistor.
Will that work correctly and not burn anything up?

Suck it up man. Ebay seems to be the ticket for this mod. I don't have an Ebay account, but I might have to get one for this mod. I prefer stores also, but internet deals are just too good.
