1999 XLT AWD 5.0.
Purchased it about 7 months ago now and to my knowledge the only aftermarket parts on it is a towing package (trailer brake controller, UHAUL towing bar, leveling shocks).
I am currently getting about 13-14 mpg city and 14-15 mpg highway. I would like to upgrade some parts to get these numbers up 2-3 mpg.
My plans:
New Intake (e.g. K&N Cold Air Intake, AEM Cold Air Intake, etc.)
Flowmaster Muffler (No. 524553)
Does anybody have any thoughts/experiences (good or bad) with either of these products? Or perhaps have reccomendations for a different product?
Other thoughts:
I saw a show on TV where they replaced the mechanical radiator fan with an electrical fan in a Dodge Ram and freed up some HP. I was thinking about perhaps doing something similar in my Explorer.
Anybody have experience (good or bad) with this?
Thank you for your input!
