I took my dear old dad's 2002 Ford Explorer for a drive in a bad snow storm and noted when put in four wheel drive it made a very loud band down in the front end about every 10 seconds -I immediately stopped and put it back in two wheel drive -drove a little -stopped -put it in neutral and back in four wheel high-it worked but still clunked loudly about every 10 seconds or so-I quit and put it back in two wheel and now want to know what is wrong-transfer case? It sounded awful! Please help-also, what is the proper way to shift this vehicle into four wheel-it does not have an auto button-just 2 wheel -4wheel high and four wheel low on the dash?
