First, I did search through the threads and didn't find anything that matched my 'clunk.'
I am hearing a loud clunk, which sounds like it is coming from under the center of the vehicle. Shifting is fine and it does not coincide with a gear change. It most often occurs around 25-30 mph, although I have heard it at ranges 25-55. Usually on a hill, but not always.
The only common denominator I can identify is this; It seems to occur when I extra stress is placed on the engine and I don't respond with increasing acceleration. For instance, if I am traveling at 25mph and then start up a hill with out giving the engine a little more juice, I will hear the clunk. If I were traveling at 25 mph and then, just before the hill, sped up and then continued to accelerate hard going up the hill, I would not hear it.
I have a 1998 V6 SOHC Limited. It has 80,000 and has been very well maintained.
Any help is appreciated!
