I searched, but couldn't find a thread that fit what I was experiencing.

On my Expo with Auto 4wd.

Reverse or drive in low speeds, especially while turning, I get an occasional momentary wheel lockup, and a jarring clunk. Kind of unnerving.

1. Possible ABS issue: signals not acceptable under normal (no wheel slip) conditions, causing transfer case electronic clutch to alternately engage/disengage.

2. Possible severely worn CV joint, front.

Check for trouble codes(s) even if no "Check Engine" (CEL) light illuminated. imp

There is a TSB on this. As I recall, it was the 4x engaging at low speeds. Mostly on turns. Tires I'd presume may rotate at different speeds causing the car to sense a slip and engage the 4x.
One of the reasons people do the BWM on the 4x models. Not available on the AWD models.
