Lower Ball Joints

If you go with original parts, the next time you gotta change ball joints you gotta replace the whole upper control arm again.

i had my lower ball joints replaced at a local shop for $75 a side, that includes everything.

now the upper ball joints is where it gets expensive, because you need a entire control arm. which is costly. i need one for my drivers side.

i jsut checked mine today after reading this thread . 30,256 k miles and they are sloppy!

while i was up on stands , looking for grease fittings . what is with the lack of them ??????? none on the u joints , none on the ball joints . wtf .

i wonder if i can get them replaced under my cna extended warrienty

I just got a call from the local Firestone dealer (got a oil change & tire rotation). They just informed me I needed lower ball joints! After reading these posts I don't have any of the classic "problems" i.e.: uneven tire wear or
vibration. I do & have always (since 47,000 mi.'s) had a creaking sound in a tight turn. Had the tires rotated 3000 miles ago & not problems then. Is this dealer on the up & up? BTW I've just turned 68,000 on my '98 XLT. Thanks.

lower ball joints do not change your allignment. you will hear thumps and groans going over bumps and while making turns. yours are probably on there way out.

A Question for You Guys. Do You think its worth getting the upper done when I get the lower? Can I get by, just getting the lower ones done?

Thanks,
Todd

My factory lower ball joints lasted a whopping 26k. Got 'em replaced under warranty, but I'll bet I've gotta get new ones again at 50K :fire:

As predicted...I'm now at 42k and the ball joints are bad again :fire:! Since I gotta pay for 'em this time, I'm putting in Moog greasables.....Should be the LAST time I have to do that!

I just had upper control arms and lower ball joints replaced on my X. The truck now rides HORRIBLY. When I go over a bump at Highway speeds, it feels like it's going to jump into the next lane. At city speeds( 15-25) if you hold the steering wheel 'loosely' you can feel it rock back and forth and feel EVERY CONTOUR of the road.

this sucks...

Take it back. They either used bad products, or did a poor job e.g. left things loose, didn't torque them right/etc.

had mine replace upper and lower on both sides with moog greasable, the upper one was $292 each !! and lower one $65 each...but now everything is fien....except my wallet ! :o)

I just posted this question on a different part of this site (NEWBIE) what about the Torsion bar don't the tension have to be taken off?and where is the replace instructions on the site pleeease and where to buy the MOOG joints
