So I went to take my tire off today, I got 4 bolts but I couldnt get this one off. I tried and tried, I dont want to strip the head of the bolt. Should I go buy an impact wrench? or buy a 1/2 drive long breaker bar and try it with 2 people?

who put it on? sounds like your going to break it... literally.. might have to though.

Broke 2 in the last six months. I previously put both on using a torque wrench.

yes

what if you try some pb blaster on it?

i'm just not sure what it'll do if it comes in contact with the tire though...

Try it again with the tire up in the air (if its one of the front wheels, start the engine and have someone else press on the brake, if its one of the rear, just keep the transmission in park).

The advantage with the tire up in the air is that you're not fighting the friction caused by the weight of that one corner of the vehicle resting on that one lug nut.

As for the wrench, use the tire iron that came with the vehicle, just extend the arm with like a small piece of tube/pipe (a jack's arm works great if its large enough)

If I can add... WD40, then start as if you were tightening the bolt, then switch immediately to reverse - don't lean back :)

19mm socket-3" extension and a breaker bar-
Use this-wd 40 doesn't even come close.

I learned that here-

thanks for the info guys, I got it off I used a 1/2 drive breaker bar and a buddy and I managed to get it off. LOL it was on there tight. I retorqued it at 100 ftlbs, Im never letting the shop touch my wheels again.

Hell next time just put the 4 lugs back on and head to a tire shop and ask someone to take it off with their gun and toss em' a couple dollars.

Grease on wheel studs.. Bad idea. Just think of what could happen if they all backed out on you..

i have been greasing studs on customers cars for ten years now. have not had a problem yet, in buffalo N.Y. everything rusts. as long as they are torqued to spec they will be fine

Your only 26.. So I highly doubt you've been in the automotive field for 10 years since that would mean you started at 16. Adding a substance between the wheel studs & lug nuts is definately a dangerous thing especially if its a lubricant like grease or anti-seize. As long as the lug nuts are torqued to 100 ft lbs I don't see them coming loose. On the other hand, I've seen them torque to 250 lbs. Girlfriend hit a pipe on the highway over the weekend. Guy came out to change the tire since it blew out the sidewall.. I watched the guy from AAA change the tire with a Snap-on cordless impact gun. I know those guns produce atleast 250 ft lbs if not more, needless to say when I saw him use the impact gun to tighten the nuts without a torque stick I was quite pissed. Told him to take them off and to use a torque stick or do it by hand. He initially refused so after talking to his supervisor at their dispatch center, he understood why I was pissed. I've used my cordless in the past too but I start them by hand and then use torque sticks to set it to 100 ft lbs.

Trust me I know all about rust.. We probably have the most idiotic road crews on the east coast.. At the mere chance of the temps dropping below 32F they'll start spreading salt & liquid type ice melt on every surface and wonder why their over budgeted when we get hardly a serious snowstorm for the entire year.

Congrats Blee I don't think I've see a quadruple post before

LOL.. I don't know how it happened.. I did notice the server was too busy..
