1997 Ford Ranger 4x4
I bought a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 for my son on his 18th Birthday. It has a 4.0 engine and a 5r55e tranny. Just my luck the tranny went out on the way home and after taking it to the shop realized i should have spent more time looking for a vehicle.Tranny for this truck is more than what i paid for it.Anyhow i found a tranny but when i got it home i noticed that the old tranny had a sensor in the front(o/d maybe) and one in the rear, but the replacement only had one in the rear. Someone told me to tie the front sensor wires together and everything would be fine, but now the truck wont go into any gear and the o/d light on the dash is flashing, any ideas on how to make this new tranny work?

If you are sure the replacement is a good trans, check that all the wire plug connectors are tight and snapped into place, loose won't work.

Tranny is good. I checked all the wiring last night to ensure everything was tight and secured and it was.I was thinking that maybe the TC was in nuetral causing the truck not to move, but i can hear it go into 4 H and In 4L.Just nothing happeing when I put it in gear.I have park and nuetral that is it and i think it is something small that iam overlooking but who knows?

PM me your email and I will send you the 5R55E ATSG manual. Lots of info.

Since the OD light is flashing a code is stored, you need to get the code read.
