I bought a superchips programmer. Plugged it into to update and verify it worked before i bought it and it went through the motions saying it was downloading the original files and then when it came to update it said it had to be updates and gave me a code. So i unplugged it and got in my car to leave. Tried to start it and it wouldnt turn over. Had it jumped then it idoled very rough and sputtered alot. Shut it off and reset the batter at reset via inside. Jumped it again and it did the same thing. Had to drive 25 miles and the whole time it wouldnt go over 45 and it acted as if it was jerking forward and bogging out. Not sure what to do with it? i called superchips and got their after hours deal. Im online trying to figure this out. Has this happened to anyone else or has anyone heard about this ever happening?

Should have bought a sct tuner, they seem to be more reliable with fords. The programmer probably changed something in the ECU. All you have to do is take it to a dealer and have the software reinstalled. They should only charge about $40. This happened to me once with my tuner and I faxed the dealer invoice to the company and they paid the bill. Hope this helps.

you probably deprogarmed the pcm, never uploaded something new.

reinstall the original tune it downloaded.

^This

Just plug it back in and reinstall the original and you should be good.

I should have went with stc but i got this one fairly cheap compared to the newer costs of one. 150 for a tuner isnt bad. Ill try to redownload and see what it does. Appreciate it guys. Has anyone every used one of these those that knows how to get it to update like it should?

i tried to restore to normal but it wont allow me the option too do so. I can get a pcm at the junkyards for 10 bucks but its a 2004. Anyone know the cage code on theirs that has a 2004 v6?

You don't really have to go through the hassle of installing a PCM when the one you have is fine. It just needs to reprogrammed, which takes 10 mins at any ford dealer. It may cost a little more than $10 though.

they charged me 185 for my reflash a few years ago.

I like these " but it saved me money" threads.

If anyone reads this, take heed. SCT through our site vendor, www.hensonperformance.com is the way to go.

I doubt you need to swap the PCM, but if you do it needs to be from the very same year with the same features. ( but hey--the 2004 PCM is only 10 bux!!lol)

yeah ford wanted to charge me 120 an hour and said its easily a 3 hour job(BS money theifs) but im only paying 50 from a mechanics shop thats retired military(perks of being a fellow airman). Wrote superchips last night and they called me back first thing this morning and have been nothing but helpful. Sent me all the information and procedures to fix it. They said the version on my car wasnt compatible with it because it hadnt been flashed to a newer version, called the mechanic to verify and he confirmed. They are paying for the fix as well as the new updates. So theres a double win for me. so im paying nothing to get an update and a new tuner and free tunes. Not bad at all. I wrote them at henson and never got a reply. So i went else where. minor setback but im not paying for anything so im not to worried. annoyance that it happened but the superchips techs have been great at helping. There is no need to 'heed" or take this as a warning. I havent used a stc from henson so i have no opinion on them but the help superchips has given me was a good show of customer care and will have me going back for sure.

Good on super chip...
So the big question is how dose it run now??? More power??? Better fuel economy???...

Cheers R...

Not bad at all. Had it updated to the newest ford updates from a local auto shop. Re flashed, then updated and tunes. power is noticeable, especially from a dead stop or when i get on the freeways. It roars. From a 30mph roll i slammed my foot into it and leaped forward, no lag threw me into the seat. And as for gas milage not to sure.. ive been acting like a speed demon. Although i did average on a trip last night pretty well mileage. Went a little under 100 miles and didnt even burn though a quarter of a tank like it used to do. My last trip reading before fill up said the tank took me 406 miles. Im not sure if the trip counter is accurate that much so ill record this one against my odometer and see what it calculates.. but as for superchips they've been awesome. Called me to see how it went and if it worked, emailed me for daily updates and everything.
