manual trans... lost 3rd gear

any have this problem before? my trans when i shift into 3rd, kicks the stick out after about 10 seconds without the cluch in and does it very hard... i've been driving it like this for weeks i go from 2nd, rev it a bit higher and then into 4th, omiting the 3rd gear completly... any ideas anyone i would love to hear them. thanx

When mine went, the third gear sycronisers and or the gear failed. There was a small crack on the inside of the gear. When mine went, the sycronisers dragged in any gear. I would expect to replace the sycronicers and third gear.

to avoid having to replace another gear soon imo you should completey rebuild the tranny. you can save some money by pulling it your self and carry it to a shop unless you are skilled enough to rebuild it yourself

thanx for the replies, I'm not that skilled (yet) mabey if i had a spare truck that i could take apart to get some pratice I guess i will drive it untill it dies and then replace it. do you know what the possibility of swaping in a np205 is? it's from a '78 ford truck.
