Autozone gave me 4 trouble codes, A week ago it was 2 codes one saying the "ECM has detected a rich or lean air fuel ratio on engine bank two."

The other one says.

"The computer has detected a rich or lean air fuel ratio on engine bank 1."

The truck only starts rough, and idles rough. When driving there is absolutely no sputtering nothing. When I start it up it starts rough. But the weird thing is if i turn the key to the on position, than shutoff the key Than turn it back on and start it. It starts up GREAT.

This is leading me to believe it is a fuel pressure problem? Because correct me if iam wrong but that starts the fuel pump up twice?

I have read on here ( been trolling this forum since i bought the truck a month ago.) that if u unplug the mass air flow sensor and run it if it runs better than it is the mass air flow sensor?

When a maf sensor is bad will it run rough all the time? like when ur driving? this only has a problem when u start it up and when it idles.

Any thoughts anyone? Im thinking of saying screw it and just pay the 150 for the mass air flow sensor. But if that doesnt work, that will suck. I know when i unplug the thing it idles alot better. But when i tried to drive with it unplugged not so much.

I REALLY dont think its the maf but u never know..may cost me 150 to gamble on it.

Idle air control valve. Take it off, clean it with some carb cleaner. The No Idle But Runs Great condition is usually caused by the IAC.

Also, clean your MAF sensor with the carb cleaner. Just spray the crap out of it and let it dry.

Ok thank you I will try this now!!! Thank you!!

Agree with Bobmbx. MAF sensor filaments are extremely delicate, spray but don't touch them.

IAC cleaning

Throttle body cleaning. Unlikely your idle issue but should be done periodically.

i seen this was pretty dirty when i was examining today. Maybe that is the problem i will try cleaning it and letting everyone know. Thank u..when i find out the fix i will post it here so someone else will help from this.

Cleaning the MAF sensor didn't work, I also cleaned inside the throttle body..didn't do anything..Going to clean the IAC soon as i find it tommorow.!!

It's more than likely a bad intake gasket. After it warms up does it run smoother?

A lot of times, cleaning the MAF sensor and finding/fixing vacuum leaks fix the problem. If you're on a tight budget, start there, but that may not be the fix for certain. So, possible solutions include:
•Clean the MAF sensor. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
•Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace/repair as required
•Inspect all hoses and connections in the air intake system
•Inspect and/or test the intake manifold gaskets for leakage
•Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure
•Ideally you'll want to monitor short and long term fuel trims using an advanced scan tool
•If you have access, you may want to run a smoke test

The 0442 code is a very small evap system leak. Those can be hard to find but could be just a cap. And the last one could be a faulty Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. Check the connection before replacing it.

Thank you for the advice, it runs great. It is only when it first starts and when it idles. If i turn the key once, than shut it off, than turn it back on and start it. It starts up great.

Yea, I didn't want to put that code up. Because I think it got thrown when i was changing the fuel filter. I had started it up a bunch of times without the cap on. I just restart the computer. Im waiting to see what codes show up. Im thinking that code will be gone..But that is just my theory of course.

So i ended up buying a new mass air flow sensor, put it on today..still the same ****..

cleaned Idol Air control motor little better not by much. No trouble codes..Will update the forum in a couple days.

As I stated in my earlier post. I think you're going to find it's the intake gaskets.

what is equipment list to check intake manifold gasket leak?
