MFT not working when cold.

I'm new on this Forum, but definately not a noob to the Automotive World. Has anyone had a problem where the unit doesn't work at temps below 45 degrees until the car is running for 15-20 mins? I have only 1600 miles on my 2014 Sport and this is driving me crazy..

I don't recall a similar issue. I recommend taking it back to the dealer to have this checked out.

Thank you for the quick response.. I've been to the dealer, they just replaced the unit got it back yesterday and its still not working correctly. Is there an operating range of the unit?

What do you mean by "not working"?

Black screen?

Some functions don't work?

Touch screen doesn't work?

When you start it up do you get the Home screen or anything displaying on the MFT or is it blank? Also when you say the dealer replaced the 'unit', what did they replace? The MFT display or the APIM?

The unit goes to the home screen... looks good but doesn't work :. Ford replaced the MFT

I would guess that the next step would be to check out the APIM and possibly replace it. Ford has extended the warranty on the APIM to 5 years due to various issues found with it. I don't know what else may be involved in as far as the MFT display is concerned.

I have to agree with peterk9 on this one. If they just replaced your unit and it's still not working, they will need to diagnose this concern further.

We have had -40 weather and my screen works perfectly at start up. Sounds like you need a trip to the dealer again.

Sorry to ask again, but what do you mean by "won't allow use? What exactly does it do? Do you get any startup screens? Does it just show a blank display and do nothing?

MFT has many quirks, still. One of the ones that I have noticed is that if I am on the phone and get into the vehicle, some times the unit will boot up and work, but then lock and not allow any inputs. The only work around I've found is to turn off the Bluetooth on the phone and then it will allow the call to be dropped, and then screen selection functionality returns.

Do you have a phone with Bluetooth turned on when the screen will not function? If so, turn off the phone, or the Bluetooth, and see if that clears the problem.

Also - check the status of your automatic phonebook download. Set it to manual and see if the problem reoccurs. Do you have more than a couple hundred contacts in your address book?

From your limited description, it sounds like MFT boots up and displays a good home screen, but then you are unable to select anything on the screen. Situations like this have been seen when there is some background process in MFT is tying up the processor - like a phonebook update.

Look for the commonality of conditions when this happens. Not to say it can't be temperature, but I wouldn't guess that as the cause.
