Hi I'm Thomas and I have two nice 97 5.0 awd explorers and a 2000 xlt sohc explorer 4wd with a bad motor and a bazillion miles on it but its really clean and everything else works on it. What I'm getting at is its basically a parts car now and it has the side mirrors with the lights on the bottom of them, I'm wondering if either of the 97s' can have those installed on them and have them work properly? Would the 97s' and the 2000 have the same plugs to accommodate the lights and for them to function? And if not what would it take to do so?

I want to install the puddle light mirrors from my 98 XLT to my 2000 Sport ... so I have the same question about the plug. The 98 XLT plug has 5 pins.. Haven't looked at the sport yet to see if it has the same pins/plug. Eager to hear the answer.

Well I pulled the panel off the drivers door of my 2000 explorer sport, sadly the plug is alittle smaller, has less pins and less wires, looks like adding mirrors with puddle lights to my ex will be more of a chore than I hoped.

It would just be a matter of re-wiring the mirrors, you can tap into the wires that run to the lights mounted to the inside of the front door panels. Those switch on like the puddle lights, those are the lights that the puddle lights replaced. Personally, I prefer the inside door lights, as they illuminate the back seat when the opposite door is opened. I am installing them on my 2000 XLT, while also leaving my puddle lights in.
