Did a search, couldn't find what I want...
Has anyone tried to make a conical or round K&N fit onto the air intake hose without having to buy the whole kit? I want to try to rig something up. Want a K&N, but figured a conical is better than a flat, but the filterchager kit is so bloody expensive, just wondered if anyone has figured out a way to do it just using the filter and some ingenuity. Pictures would be great.

Thanks.

Have you given the KKM filter kit a thought? Its only about $90, is easy to install and works great.

See http://www.kustomz.com/ for a description and ordering info.

Good luck....

aldive,

Yes that is what I am going for, but due to the low Canadian dollar, that is about $160. Just figured rigging something up with a plain old conical K&N couldn't be too hard. Watching Appollo 13 right now, just made me think, you know how they made a square filter fit in a round hole...:-) There must be a way to connect it somehow. Couple hose clamps, some flexible hose, some weatherstripping, some kinda bracket to hold it all?????? Whaddya think? I think I read somewhere how someone did this, but can't find it. So let me know, thanks.

with a few power tools, it wouldn't be that hard to make an aluminum flange to go between the filter and the MAS. It wouldn't be as thick as the one in the kit, but it would work. Get some reasonably thick aluminum, and cut a circle the size of the filter. Then cut a circle inside for the MAS airflow, and tap the four screw holes. Instead of screws u can use nuts and bolts too. Then cut a strip of Al to go around the outside of the disk you made. You can JBWeld the two parts together. This will create a thicker mounting point for the KN, use a hose clamp. I don't know if you can picture it, the strip would go onto the disc like a small rubber band would go to the outside of a coin, make sense?

Good luck!

Thanks Alec. Yes, I can see what you are getting at, and it doesn't sound that difficult. I think I will give it a try.

Also, what is done with the 2 little tubes(vacuum lines?) going into the existing airbox? Not sure if the new ones like yours have them, but mine does.

Thanks again.

Sorry

Please ignore my previous post, I read some other threads on this topic and got the answer.

Sorry.
