Hi Folks,

I'm just wondering if there are any pitfalls to be aware of when replacing a multi-function switch ('96 Explorer)? I've got a Haynes manual for the vehicle, and it lists popping out the key lock cylinder because both top and bottom steering column covers must be removed. It seems basic enough, but I've had experience with Haynes manuals in the past not to trust the directions fully.

Can anyone please share any experiences with the steps replacing this switch ?

Thanks,

Richard

its real easy, I just did mine last week. Took me a whole 5 mins. Disconnect the battery, cuz the air bag is right in your face... The streering column cover is in two peices, so you don't have to remove the ignition. Then its just a matter of removing a few screws and disconnecting plugs... hope this helps

Thanks for the info Studd469,

Good to know I can leave the ignition in place. I wasn't sure why it had to be removed, knowing the cover is in 2 pieces. And thanks for the safety tip about the air bag too.

I've got to work on this before my upcoming inspection...the switch has been buzzing when signalling a right turn.
