Sure it could be done on your explorer. The only problem is that in most places, it seems like I remember that side exhaust with an SUV is illegal; the law claims that exhaust gases could get into the cab...

Doesn't apply to pickup trucks since they have an open bed in the back.

It can be done quite easy.... only thing is you can only exit on the passenger side. Driver side has the gas tank in the way. And yes, some shops wont do it on an SUV. You may also have trouble with inspection. Although, i know alot of people who have side exits on SUV's and have never had any trouble with fumes entering the vehicle.

All that needs to be done to ensure exhaust gasses aren't entering the cabs is to make sure all your door and window seals are in good condition.

I personally have my exhaust dumped right under the X before the Rear Axle and haven't had any problems with Exhaust gasses in the cab.

i kind of was thinking of that with oval shaped exhausts but i was worried about the gas too.

Cali, do you have them on both sides? What happens if you have your windows down, does it get in? You got any pics?

No pics right now, but I can get some.

It doesn't come out both sides, but it dumps under the rear of truck just in front of the Rear Axle. Its about 1 foot from the right side of the car and a couple of feet from the left side (It sits on the Passenger side of the vehicle, in the same position as the stock exhaust, but instead of going up and over the axle, it has a turn down right after the muffler).

With the windows down, when its just been started up, you can smell a little gas coming in the back window, but no more than was smelled with the stock exhaust and the back windows down.

I personally have had no problems with windows up or down, in traffic or not, and I'm very sensitive to smells coming from my car.

There is one way you could possibly get a dual Side Exit, but it would be a lot of work. If you can find a Bronco II fuel tank, you can actually mount it in the rear of the vehicle where the Spare tire goes. You could then remove the stock gas tank and route it. Its a whole lot of work, but I've seen Ranger guys do the BII tank in the back as an Auxillary Tank for off-roading. Obviously a lot of work just to put dual side exits, but if you are looking that really custom look, it might be worth it.

you think that a the driver's side muffler could be mounted too just to show off? i mean either way all I want is something different you know and also are there any special sideskirts or anything like that?

Its illegal to have the exhaust exit the vehicle before the end of the passenger compartment. It can be done easy, I have seen several Rangers like that, I like it!
Just be prepared to get a ticket if the cops are feeling picky.....
I would love to route mine out the rocker panel behind the pass side tire, just so there is no pipe hanging down low looking for rocks.....

Tell that to the cops...

HEhe, don't know what to say to that. I've had my exhaust dumping right under the car for the last 4 months or so with no problems whatsoever. Even had a cop pull me over to find out what I had because he owned an Explorer and liked the sound.

That's surprising seeing as how I live in CA which is probably the most restrictive place around.

hey cali can you get some pix? I'm kinda curious now if a cop pulled you over to ask you what you installed then it must be pretty damn good

jflores, I'll try and snap a couple of pics this evening. Its nothing too special, just a Magnaflow Dual 2.5" in Single 3" straight pipe, dumped right after the muffler (before the rear axle). At idle and cruise its nice and deep, but if you get on it, it sounds like something from the Drag Strip, nice and Throaty (not overly like a Flowmaster, but gets a nice growl/scream to it).

I'll try and get some pics tonight when it cools down.

nice, thanks man I wanna check that out

Here are a couple of pics. I tried to get a good angle, but the only way to see the Muffler is under the car. If you look through the rear wheel well on the Passenger's side at just the right angle, you can see the exhaust pipe, but otherwise, you can't see it all. Enjoy
