My 5.4L 3v Adrenalin engine swap

I don't care how much **** you bust your ride will be bad ass until you do.
Ha! That's funny. I'm buying a new video camera just to film all the new stuff I'll do with the truck. Burnouts, Dyno, In-car video...

Why do you persist on teasing us like you do? I want one!
I'm just glad there's folks here that are as excited as I am to see it finished. It will literally be one of a kind.

Do these trucks have the 6r60 or 6r80 I read some that 08 and newer have the 6r80 trans in there.
6r60 is what my research has found. However, the 6 spd 6r60 comes in many flavors evidently. They have various versions of it for different years and vehicles. The new 2011 Mustang gets the 6r60 as well, probably different than our truck version, and the new HD F150 gets a beefier version although I can't find ANY info on what's different about it. I'll just see what happens to the stocker in mine and go from there if it breaks.

Oh yeah I'm excited I love this kind of stuff I have a 03 cobra so all my mods go into that. So I get to live vicariously through you with my Adrenalin.

Looks great!

I was just hoping it was a 1st gen Sport Trac, cuz I was wondering if I could cram one in my Sport!

Old engine is out. New engine is all prepped and ready for installation. Ran into a few unexpected surprises that requires new parts. Off to the Ford dealer tommorrow.

Yes, Shrader Performance in Mount Holly, NC just west of charlotte. Build various performance parts for Mustangs mostly, but for about 2 yrs now, we offer custom 4.6 and 5.4 modular engine builds. I really don't do much with installations, and try to concentrate on the engine build itself, but that may be expanded in the next year if I can get moved to a bigger shop. I may turn this ST build into a package deal that a ST owner can drop off their truck and return to pickup a fully complete monster. Time will tell.

This truck is my personal truck, but to help showcase my engine building abilities, this will be a rolling advertisement of sorts. Although, I'm a motor head and would have done it regardless. :D It's the tow vehicle for taking our yellow '99 Mustang to track events. You can see the car in action on Pass Time from last summer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfGKMUb1GCA. Hoping to get the ST on Pass Time this Spring!

NICE!!! Can't wait to see the Final Numbers!!

Great to hear that a fellow explorer owner is doing well!

If I have the money, I definitely would love to take a trip to your shop and have you or your workers work their magic on my 4.6 engine :D

You and me both!

You can use a Mustang 4.6 3v supercharger, but it will require some custom fabbing. The stock internals on these engines won't handle much boost, so it's a lot of cash to drop for a new supercharger kit and installation, unless you go ahead and build the bottom end of the motor first. New pistons and rods, will ensure you can crank up the boost safely without blowing it all to junk. ;)

hey thanks man... if i got crazy enuf to do the engine swap like you just how much work would go into all of that. i was thinkin a full stage 3 roush mustang engine swap. idk thinkin that might be overkill, ive also heard that the transmission have been kow to have problems??...?? im for sure going to do something if i get it. who knows i might just get the new SVT Raptor instead. gune leave it up to the fiance tho... who knows she does like x's

Beautiful pair of Fords, my friend!

I own a 2007 4.6 4X4 Limited and I really like my setup. I did a little research on the 4.6 & 5.4 engines & learned they share the same bore, the 5.4 gaining it's increased displacement, torque, & hp apparently via a longer stroke. If my assumptions are correct, might it be possible to keep your 4.6 block & swap out a new crank, pistons, & head from a salvaged 5.4? Just a suggestion - looking for alternatives for you. Have you looked into this option?

Put it in and take a picture!! everytime i click user cp and see this thread, I click on it anxiously! but still nothing:mad::D

Nope. 5.4 deck height is taller. You need a 5.4 block to work with 5.4 crank.

Your wish is my command!

It's nearing completion. LOTS of unexpected problems. But nothing that can't be solved with a trip to the Ford dealer or a few grinding tools. This motor really is a monster. The wider heads mean I'll not be able to get the valve covers off without removing the brake booster and AC lines. And the exhaust flanges from the Y-pipe don't match up, but I had planned to have it all made up custom anyway.

I have to modify the hood slightly to clear the blower. It sticks further forward than I anticipated. (Doh!) I need about an inch of clearance to close the hood. So I plan to cut a section of the undersupport beam to make room. The hood blanket will cover up the cuts. (see pic)

I even came up with a custom exhaust setup that will have one big Flowmaster muffler as the main muffler, but I will have a switch on the dash to activate my electric cutout and switch to a secondary "Sleeper" muffler for casual cruising with the wife. I can pull up next to an unsuspecting car at a street light in Sleeper Mode... then just before he decides he'll show me up, I'll switch it over to "Bad Mothaf***er Mode". LOL

Still have to clean up the wiring and finish lots of little things off. Should be starting it up this weekend.
