Its driveable but if it were me I would take about .003 out of that pinion shim and see if that pattern will spread out more. I have tons of shims if you think you don't have the right one.

:banghead: for me

:exp:

Ok so back apart it comes then, ill text you boomin

Man, good on you for learning how to set up you own r&p. I've got to do mine but gonna have to put down the $$$ to get em done since I don't wanna screw it up!

Man its pretty easy especially if you got the right tools or boomin livin right around the coner!;)

of course

:exp:

Yeah it's definitely way too deep.

I'd say try going out about .007 on the pinion and see what you get (not sure, you might need to go more than that even).

Here's what you want it to look like:

Wooooooooooow!!!!!!! Im done and went for my first drive and wow what a difference! ! Rearend is quiet and seems all good!!if got a leak on my front caliper soo i didnt really have any brakes.my speedo is about 15 mph off.but all and all this is a easy swap if you got the right tools and 4.88s are super nice!!!!;);););)

It's a little deeper than I would've left it, but I think you'll be fine. The fact it's not noisy is a good sign.

i do not understand any bit of the angle stuff of the purpose of the yellow crap. but ill have to learn that when i swap my axles i guess

488 on 35s right?
test drive it on over to my house and help me out :)

Some very good reading here:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Gear_Setup/

4.88 w/35s is normally what I suggest if it will be on the highway a lot, 5.13 if it's more playtoy-only (4.0L).

the way my math came out to for 37s was 4.73 in order to make the speedo/rpms right. not sure what 35 would be, dont feel like math right now. but making it numerically higher just increases power pretty much?

thanks for the link, i understand the purpose of the yellow stuff now, but everything else went right over my head lol

Yeah you'll probably have to read through it a few times before everything starts to sink in.

Not sure if you were basing your math on what the truck has stock (not a good idea), you want to shoot for a certain cruise RPM at 65 (Ford wasn't always real good at this... why do you s'pose 3.27 gears were offered? lol). The 4.0L seems to like it around 2500-2700 at that speed, which 4.88 puts you at the low end of that w/35" tires, or 5.13 at the high end (if you're now thinking 37s, then definitely 5.13s). Correcting the speedo afterward is only a matter of swapping a small $5 gear on the side of your transfercase (takes all of about 5 minutes to do).
