My BII Project

unbolt Dana 28
bolt in dana 35

get the radius arms with it, springs, sway bar, etc.
Make sure its got the right gear ratio in it before you put it back in 4x4

I think you can use your drivesahft for now, but if you ever go to a later model 1354 t case you will need that D35 front d shaft, your D28 one wont work. So its a good time to pick that up too.

You will have to bleed the brakes but the lines are the same
Good time for new wheel bearings, hus, diff seals, ball joints and tie rod ends

is this a good deal? Also this would help out on my COG also right?
from a 89 Full size Bronco.
for $150

dana 44 ttb up front
ford 8.8 in rear
3.54 gears

Will I beable to use all my lift parts from the BII I have on there now with a D44 TTB and 8.8?

Like my lift coils? break lines?

no and no
the dana 44 is about 8" wider then the D35

not even close to bolting in
Gear pattern must match the rear axle or you will ahve to regear before you can use 4x4

so what is my best bet here. I use this as my DD, so it needs to be done with in a weekend. I have the stock D28 now, so is my best bet for now a
D35 from an x? and the rear axle from a EX? When I have time and the money I would like to put a old Bronco front axle with the coils.
I want to change the D28 before I break it in the woods.

I can get a 91 - 94 ex for $500 with a shot body, but I can use the axles, and in the summer take the 4.0L. I know my lift will not work with a D44 but will my lift I have now work with a D35?

You can bolt a dana 35 TTB in, it is about twice (not literally) as strong as that dana 28 you have now.
However if you plan to go solid axle eventually then this is all either wasted $$$ or just to buy you time.
You decide.

When you go with a solid axle and a new rear whether its 8.8 or 9" you are probably going to wanbt to get new coils, steering, knuckles, brakes, u joints, ball joints, gears, locker, etc
It adds up real fast.

So maybe keep your Dana 28 until you break something, when you break something you can keep replacing parts with junk yard dana 28's until you are ready to go solid

Or you can spend a few hundred on a D35 TTB and bolt it in, you will probably again spend more $$$ for brakes, bearings, bushings, etc at the least, so I would only do this is you think you need it and you plan to buy yourself some time with the bolt in D35

Its up to you, I personally would wheel the piss out of my D28 and see if I can break it, it will hold up quite well with just 33's they are not that weak.....but not that strong either. Start collecting parts for your solid axle conversion and spend the $$$ there, since it will be well spent and not just temporary

Okay than that's what I will do. Sounds great. What I am going to do is pick up 2 spare front axles, put new U-Joints in them and take them with me when I go in the woods. I am not running 33" I have 35".

On a different note I have started on the back windows, I have taken all the screws out and just pulled down the plastic to expose the nuts. Marked were the nuts are and drilled it out with a 1" bit. Not sure what the bit is called, its to cut circle The nuts are 9mm, or a 8mm.. One of the two. I just used a extension and a ratchet. This will be very easy to take those windows out, and very nice in the summer.

35's should make short work of that dana 28 if you beat on it!
I would try to avoid wheel spin as much as possible unless you are trying to blow up the hubs and u joints hehehe

So I was thinking on the way home, decided to still get a 91 - 94 ex.
I will stick with the D35 for a few years untill I buy a house. Now what I was thinking, not sure if it works like this or not but, get a EX take the axles and the 4.0L put it in the BII. Take the axles from the BII and 2.9L and put it in the ex....... so id have a 2.9L ex. hahaha I bet that would just fly! I could use it for backup when the BII breaks down.

Just found some front flair fenders in the same city as me. 6" flair $150
The ones on this site.
http://www.mcneilracinginc.com/Ford/BroncoII/83-88/
It would be really cool to get the explorer front kit. If I end up buying these fenders than I will order the rear ones. They are Hand Laid Fiberglass. I can order the rear ones for $300

I went in the woods on the weekend. Took my friend from back home. On are way out I went around a tree and sank in the ground on the side of a rather steep but not long hill. My truck was being held up by a larg stump, though it in reverse a SNAP, broke front axle. I was just waiting for it. So rather than fix the D28 I found this just down the street from me. What should I offer this guy? I have no idea.

"Re: D35 IFS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Got one here. complete with steering rods radius arms. Its got 4.10s in it and its complete huh to hub calipers you name it. Ill even throw in the drive shaft and w.e ttb parts I got. Make an offer... Can even take the 4" lift coils with it. And the steering stabilizer is on it too. Ill get some pics in a little bit...."

$100-150 for a complete Dana 35 TTB hub to hub :) hahaha low ball offer they are hard to get rid of, if its in good shape it may be worth more (new brakes, ball joints, u joints, tie rods, whatever hes got in it.

I got a hole bunch of Dana 35 ttb ****.. Private message me, ill give you most of it free. just pay shipping

JTX I will let you know. I can in Canada. Not sure it would be cheap to ship all that.

So if it has 4.10s than I will need to change the rear gears to the same right? What kind of problems am I going to run into with the stock rear axle with a D35 in front? D35 is wider than the D28 I take it.

no problems at all
dana 35 is not wider
yes the front and rear gears MUST match or you will blow up your t case and maybe trans
you are gaining alot of strength, better wheel bearing size and spacing, bigger brakes

the way the truck drives will be 100% the same except for the braking improvement

good time to replace radius arm, axle pivot, sway bar, bushings
ball joints, tie rods, u joints, seals, bearings, calipers, pads, whatever it needs

SBJ420...where are these explorers with shot bodies for 500 bucks. I may be interested in one.

Lots of good local people on that site.
but not good for tech help so much.

I keep trying to join this site but I get an error when I go to paypall. Think paypall is a no no at work.

97V8 what do you need from one of these trucks? Maybe we can go splits and take what we need. Just an idea

I need the truck lol. I'm gettin sick and tired of not driving.

can I put 4:10 gears in a rear stock axle from a BII?

Here is what Iam picking up for $200
Dana35.jpg

sure you can install 4.10 gears in the Ford 7.5" rear end you have, or you can find a 7.5 with 4.10 in it, or better yet find a 4.10 8.8 and use it

Ring and pinion swaps are expensive, so if you are going to put that $$$ into a rear end you might consider using a strong rear end from day one (the 8.8)

what does a 88 BII rear axle come stock with? Also how do I tell what gears I have? Count the teeth?

You have a 7.5" Ford (corporate) rear
They came from the factory with 3.27, 3.55, 3.73, 4.10 and 4.56 gears
3.55 and 3.73 were most popular

Some LATE model 90 BII's had a ranger style 8.8 rear axle
These would be 2.9L MAS trucks with a hybrid dana 35/28 TTB up front
I have seen 1 and I am not even sure his truck was a hybrid TTB might have been 100% D35
