My Ford Explorer will not start!

There's really no way to tell if the sensor has broken. Its best to replace it if its suspect, as it's not a very expensive part (as opposed to the $111.35 Idle Aircontrol Valve I had to replace this weekend. Ouch!!). Im adding a link to Autozones website, which will show you what the sensor looks like.http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa...N-j918bZ9gslr?itemIdentifier=184768_726118_0_ I'll see if I can find a diagram of the engine, showing the exact position. Hope this is of some help. (BTW, when I was having trouble getting mine started, before I knew what was wrong, the starter would turn as well as the motor, but it acted as if it wasnt getting gas or spark from the ignition coil pack)

Cheers.

Chris Harrach

111.35 dollars Ouch! Yeah, if it's "cheap" in USA, does mean it's expensive here in norway  Yeah, see if you can find a diagram.

Did the engine turn when you was turning the key to "start" then? It does not turn on mine... And yeah, mine acting like it's not geting ignition from the coil...

When you had this problem, did you check/measured the OHM/A/Volt on the sparkplug/ sparkplug "hat/cap"?

Cheers Chris! :D

You are in Norway. Does the car have an immobilizer installed? If so it will not start without a working remote control. Try a search for "immobilizer" for more info.

When you stated the PATS sensor had come off the key cylinder, when did this happen? Did you take apart the column covers before the no-start issue came about or did it happen later as you were trying to inspect the ignition switch. The sensor must be within an inch or so of the PATS key. Make sure the wiring is still attached and clip it back onto the cylinder lock housing.

Yes, i'am. The car have an immobilizer installed, I got it on the key. When i pus the botton on the immobilizer, i'm geting a red light.

"When you stated the PATS sensor had come off the key cylinder, when did this happen?"what do you mean? :) I did take apart the column covers after the no start issue... I was trying to check the key lock, if something was wrong with it. what sensor? That "thing" i broke, insearch of the no-start issue? that "sensor" i broke won't fit in the key lock cylinder now.. So then i need to buy a new one? or fix it to?

US vehicles generally do not have the immobiliser installed so our troubleshooting may be a little off. I suspect the issue you are experiencing is directly related to having a dead battery with the immobiliser as the symptoms seem to match up fairly well with discussions in the UK forum on to how the immobilizer works. Suggest you try checking for an override switch. I think there should be a push button on the module located in the rear hatch by the jack. Push it twice then quickly have someone turn the key to start.

Here is the issue that I am having.

This morning my Ford Explorer Sport ran fine. I went to auto parts store and purchased some MAF spray and sprayed it into the Mass Air Flow sensor.

I also purchased some Sea Foam to clean any carbon deposits up on the inside of the engine as I have been having idle issues the truck shutting off or dropping to a low RPM when the accelerator is released.

After getting home I added the Sea Foam to the engine via the hose that connects to the canister looking device that is directly behind the brake fluid resevoir.

The Sea Foam performed just like it should and smoke appeared. Shortly thereafter the truck simply shut off and would not restart.

I am assuming that the issue is the Theft Module as the battery is less than two weeks old and the battery charge indicator indicates the battery is low even though I placed a portable charger on the battery for around an hour.

When I try to start the vehicle the engine does not turn over and the truck acts like the battery is completely dead where a loud click comes from the left side of truck.

Also when I try to start the truck several times the power locks will lock and then unlock automatically.

I have already tried the negative battery terminal trick but that has not seemed to fix the problem.

Also when I turn the key to the ON position I can hear the Fuel Pump turn on.

Jovnna0901 -- any progress on getting the truck started?

I have not tried this, I will try it as soon i can :) Thanks

What do you mean with "by the jack" what is a jack?

I have done some searching on the car. Me and my friend, but i don't remember what we did. So i'll check with him and comment here, when i have found it out!

:)

Hei, I got some info now. So we got power on fuse 24(15 amp), but we don't got any power on the start relay(only few millivolt, no reaksjon) This was testet when the Key was in "ON" and "start" position.

Se the problem is between the relay and the ignition switch...

I have not testet what RomeovilleIL said yet.

Inside the back of the truck on the drivers side there should be a compartment in the quarter panel that stores the jack (lift) and tire tool for changing flat tires. The door that covers it has two knobs you turn to allow the door to be pulled free. On a US truck the RAP module (off-white colored plastic box with large wire bundles that controls the alarms systems) is located behind on top of the wheel well in this compartment. Per the UK forums there should be a bosch immobilizer control box located here in the UK model vehicles. There is supposed to be a button on the control box to reset the immobilizer which should allow the vehicle to get power and start.

If you want me to take more picture around the car, say so :)

Although cannot be sure since my US cars dont have them installed, I am confident the immobilizer is very likely the issue since the no-start issue you described is the way the immobizer works and you have not identified a broken part in the ignition system. I recommend you check the UK forums for more information.

Yeah, it sounds like it is the immobizer... :( Do you have a link to the uK forums?? :)

I also got a lilte "doorkey" on my key. When i press the buttom, its just coming a red light and no response from the car, de i have to syncronise the key and car?

I know this will sound crazy, but have read that the frequency used in the remotes is also used for broadcast media and cell phones so the key can be completely overpowered in random locations. Recommendation is to take a piece of aluminum foil and make a small box around the immobilizer unit. Put the remote in the box with the immobilizer and press the key. The foil should shield out other frequency sources in the area and allow the key to be read by the immobilizer. I believe its supposed to turn green for start.
