97 xlt
ok well i'll try to explain this the best i can. I have a 97 xlt. I had a decent alpine headunit in it, but i recently replaced that with a jensen indash dvd player that i got a good deal on. I really like the dvd player except for the fact that it doesnt play cds very well. What I mean by this is that with burnt cds, towards the end of the cd you can hear popping and static in the music, it gets pretty annoying. So i'm thinking about installing the alpine unit into the heater control location and relocating that. But i need advice on how to do this. Should i just keep everything hooked up to the jensen, and just run the alpine as an aux. input into it, would it be worth it? Since I would have to connect it by rca's i wouldnt get full stereo sound correct?

sorry for the long post. but thanks in advance,
ryan

The HVAC controls on your truck are difficult to move...but it can be done. you are looking at a wiring nightmare if you do like you want. I say ditch both HUs and get another DVD HU. I have seen some relatively cheap on ebay. I have an Innovatek from www.mp3playerstore.com and I am very happy with it. Click on the link in my signature to see my setup.

I am trying to hook up an amp and a sub to my stock head unit. How do I hook up the RCA cables?

this is the jensen player i have:

i'm very happy with it. i got it for the day after thanksgiving sale for $497, and i dont think im gonna be able to find a better deal than that. i do have my laptop and ps2 hooked up to it, so i can play music through both of those, but changing cds through those isnt the easiest.

Justin, I'm really impressed with your truck, and your install. But how did you manage to fit two single dins in the stock location? is the 2000 xlt an actual double din? sorry for my ignorance. Thanks again

It isnt a full double din but can be easily made into one. There is a kit made by Schoshe...sounddomain sells it. It gives you the brackets to hold a double din and a trim ring. THis is what I am using. You do have to trim the inside edges of the dash peice slightly. I say if you got it at Circuit City, take it back--It is obviously defective.

ya i think i will take it back and try another one. thanks a lot for all the help.
