i found this ranger about 100 miles away from where i live, and was curious to see if i could get some input on the guys asking price.. it is a 1987 ford ranger STX 4X4, 5 speed manual, 2.9L V6. good clutch, new tires, new shocks, no A/C, with 135k miles, he says it only has one small spot of rust on the driver side rear fender. his asking price is $2500 FIRM
So you're wanting opinions on whether it's worth it? I don't need to see the pics to say the price is too high for a close to 30 year old truck. Unless you really like it and have the money to spend. Then it's worth it.
In 2002, I sold an 89 STX to a co-worker for just under $4,000. I considered that a premium price for a vehicle with almost 200K miles on it. The truck was in perfect condition and the buyer didn't even try to negotiate. He is still driving it today and it is still running well. He is very happy with it.
Yes, $2,500 seems a bit high for a 27 year old truck but if it is in very good condition, it could be worth it. I would be concerned about the one small spot of rust. If there is one small spot of rust, there is likely more some place else. Then again, it could just be surface rust from a rock chip. The 135K is good for that age vehicle. Not having A/C would be a problem for me but that is your call. I would go over it with thoroughly before buying it.
His offer may be firm but you can always make a lower offer and let him think about it. I have made offers on a couple cars that were turned down and a couple months later got accepted.
