Sometime in the next month or so I might (about 90% sure I will) be heading from san diego to dallas and back road trip. I am picking up an early bronco for my boss. So I need a trailer to haul it on. I eather buy one here or get one in texas. It seams like I see alot of cheap teailers located in texas. Are there and brands I should look specificallly for or stay away from. I am looking for 18-20 ft deck Still split on weather to get a 7k or a 10k rated trailer. I have seen the big tex trailers and they are nice but kind of $$$. I would rather spend a bit extra then buy a piece of junk. I plan on keeping it for several years so I want something that will last.

PS Yes stang girl I will be going to the dublin drpepper museum :D

Any other must sees on the I10 and I20 through Texas. Yes I have seen el paso so dont be teilling me it is a tourist place :p

I hate to tell you, but El Paso is as good as it gets on that route. About the only route more boring than that, with more hundred miles of absolutely nothing, would be Hwy 50 in NV..... I-20 goes over 630 miles across Texas and doesn't get interesting at all until Dallas, and that's as far as you're going.

Take plenty of caffeinated DrPepper to get you through that stretch awake. :D

The one I used to have was a Top Hat. 18ft, 12K and I paid way less than the $2500 they wanted for it, but that was before steel prices went nuts. I only had a few minor electrical problems with it over the 3 years I had it. In addition to Big Tex, PJ is supposed to be really nice as well. Any of them may be cheaper if you buy direct from the factory instead of a dealer.

PM Trkmagic, he has the hookup on trailers, and he is in D/FW area.

In order of my personal preference:

Top Hat

Magnumn

Big Tex

I have personal experience with all of them, all three are also used at the company I work for too.

The only recomendations are:

Bull Dog Coupler

Steel Deck

Rear hide-away stoage ramps (not made of angle iron)

At least one axle with brakes

The last one I bought was an 18' steel diamond plated deck with all the above, and a 45* restraint rail at the front of the deck with tounge mounted cargo box for $1901 including TT&L, becarefull some trailer places will also only equip your trailer with used tires unless you purchace new, not included in the price of the trailer.

I want a wood deck. I will take the cost of having to replace it every so often. I like the ability to nail stuff to the deck when you are hauling odd stuff. I would want brakes on both axles. It will probably see some time behind my half ton chevy so evey little bit helps. Long a big pulls will be done with my girlfrends CTD dodge.

I sent trckmagic a PM. Thanks James.
