I'm happy with the stock lighting on my X, but I'm building a honda CBR f3 with a bunch of custom parts, and I am looking for some suggestions on what lights to run. I need something small, around a 2" diameter, I need them to be bright so people in cars can see me, and I would like the blue tint. From what I have found so far, I think I should go with a Projector Fog light setup, but I don't know which. Can some of you guys help me out? Thanks

Unless you are going to have some auxilary lights (fogs) also I wouldnt use a projector. You can see just fine where the projector is pointing but the cut-off leaves a lot of dark space that would be lit be a reflector type light.
I have projectors (HID) on my car and reflector (OEM) on the Merc. If I dont use the fogs on the car I feel like I'm driving into a black hole. With only one light I think it would be worse. Of course if your only going for looks.......

Thanks for the advice man. I do what them to work well, better than stock lights if possible. I can't decide if I want to buy a set of R1 or 600rr headlights and fab them into my upper fairing, or get some small lights like in these pics:

I'll second what bill kemp said. I have hids on my car (tl) and there is a very sharp cut off point, they illuminate a very defined area, so I almost always have the fog lights on with my lows just to fill in the blanks directly in front of me and directly to the sides.

With either of the lights shown on the cycles in the pics (top PIAA 1000((old style)), bottom ???) You are not going to see well at night.
Before you put any type of light on the bike I would try it on your veh. first and see how much light it puts out compared to your headlight(Cover one to compare) High speed night driving doesnt lend itself well to small stylish lights. IMO you need a good, maby HID, headlight and some PIAA 910 driving lights.

Thanks. I'll start checking out the PIAA lights. I'm new to the lighting aftermarket, so I'll probably be asking a lot of newb questions. I like the looks and size of the PIAA 1100X, but their site says they only cover 35deg. Not really going to be enough light at night. I'll keep searching, more suggestions are welcome, and thanks for the help so far guys.

Alright, I've been checking out a bunch of lights and reading around the web, and I'm back with some more questions. I really like the Piaa 1100x Dichroic bulbs for a set of driving lights. However they only cover a 35deg. range, so I would need some supplementary lights. Piaa's site says that their projector fogs cover a 100-120deg range.

I am thinking I could mount a set and have plenty of light at night. I like the Piaa 959s. What do you guys think of a setup like this?

I'm not ready for lighting yet, it's a long way off in the project, but I'm trying to narrow my focus on what I want. I need small, yet powerful lighting, and the lights need to last, can't run cheap crap. I was hoping for just two small lights, but it doesn't look like that is an option right now.

I had a friend that had hid in the low beam of his r1 you could tell it was abit of a nock off as it did not come on right away, but it worked really really well once lit.

Thanks for that link Bill, that's what I'm looking for, but of a smaller diameter. If i was building a chopper that would be perfect. Based on the fairing I will be running, I like the idea of dual headlamps, and if I can't find a pair with enough light for night riding, I will throw some small fogs on there too. I'll search somemore later on tonight and see what I can find.

PIAA 510 Driving lights could be aimed low enough to not get you flashed but you would still need a high beam. Wouldnt you?
Fog lights are only good for 25 to maby 50 feet. OK for around downtown but you would be driving blind in the country.
The 1100 say driving lights but they are not much more than fogs in reality. They remind me more of a flouresent light than a driving light.

Wow, I like those Hella HIDs... but at almost $700 they are a little pricey. I'll be checking ebay for a used pair, because those are exactly what I want. Compact size, and plenty of light. You know of anything similar but not so expensive? I really appreciate all the help thus far, I'm still new to aftermarket lighting, but I'm learning. Thanks guys
