Need some help crank no start.

I have an 04 stock explorer 4wd with a 4.0. the woman dropped me off at work and put it in reverse it died and wouldn't start back. It sounded like the started was whining when it gets turned over too much. I changed starter didn't help. I checked timing that's good too. I replaced fuel pump because I couldn't hear it kick on. That didn't do it either. I checked fuses and relays the best I could. It's almost as if the motor has no compression. I checked to see if getting spark. So now getting both spark and fuel but still won't run. Any suggestions? Am I overlooking something??? Appreciate any help greatly. Thanks.

I'd be checking the compression. Maybe the timing chain has let go.

I just got finished checking that last night and the chains all seem to be timed right. I thought the same thing at first. I have retimed like four times so far. But I do have a question about that. If I was 180 degrees out of time wouldn't I be able to loosen cam sprocket bolts and spin the crank around once and tighten them back up and be good to go? The only part that wouldn't be timed right would be the balance shaft. How important is that and would it cause problems also.
 






You wouldn't be 180 out, a tooth or two on the sprocket is enough for you to have a massive problem
 






I understand that you changed the fuel pump, but how do you know you are getting fuel pressure?
 






I have the master fuel injection pressure test kit. I also just made another discovery when I just pulled the plugs they had fuel on them but the electrodes are gone so the gap would be like 80. For all three drivers side pulling other side now
 






How did you check for spark?
Spray carb cleaner or starting fluid in the intake. If you have spark. It should start.
Do you have any codes?

and I used an inline spark tester to check for spark.

I used a scanner last night that tested injectors and it says no faults. But I need to test for pressure still.
 






If you have spark and it won't run on starting fluid, I'd get a compression tester on the engine. If the engine is original, it is in the mileage range that the timing components are worn out and let go. I realize you stated above that you checked the timing several times and stated it's good. I'd still rule out the compression.
 












Check fuel pressure with your master fuel injector pressure tester kit. FYI the sohc engine the test port is sometimes in on the passenger side back of the fuel rail

There is no cam synchronizer on these or distributor so being “180 out” is not a “thing”

Ok here's an update. First thank u to all of u who replied I took every one of your replies to heart and acted accordingly. So I figured out my fuel pressure kit had two hoses that were plugged somehow and I had no fuel pressure at all. Changed pump, still no pressure. Changed a second time now there's pressure for about five key turns then none again. Decided I would look at timing chain tensioners and guides even though they were just replaced. So on compression stroke number one cyl.tdc, the balance shaft is in correct position but both cams are 180 out. They should be turned a half revolution then they will be timed with the crank. So I figure that's probably why it sounds like no compression. So now I have a question, what is the best way to accomplish this? Loosen cam bolts and turn crank or hold crank take jackshaft bolt loose and turn cams?? I have the tools but I'm not sure which method would be best?

They are but that was from the guides and tensioners being replaced after it died. I thought that maybe it had jumped time because the two guides were non existent and the balance shaft tensioner and jackshaft tensioner wer also gone. But no before the truck died I put a whole new timing kit on it probably 8 mos to a year before it died.
 






I've read everything you have stated and I still feel like I'm missing something.

Is your fuel pressure question resolved?

I would certainly be SURE that fuel pressure is adequate, consistent, and continuous, before addressing timing and compression issues.
