I am about to buy a surfboard and it is gonna be about 6'6 and i have a 4dr explorer and i was wonder if there is a way to put it on the roof other than bungie ties. I really dont want to put it inside because i know the inside will get trashed with sand, water and all that jazz.

Please help with ideas!!!

Thanks!

ok cool thanks! Yea i have been going down to corpus christi to surf with my friend at his college there, and i usually just rent a board, but I am going to school there this year and i am gonna get one soon!

Thanks for the help!

how would you use the tie downs on the roof?

well they work best by running them through the roof rails, but if you dont have that then you can do what my cousin did on his car and roll down the windows and run them through his car. Bungee cords work really well and are probably cheaper, but I wouldnt use them without one of those bags.

Sound good! Thanks for your help! I will deffenitly get some of those tie downs!

I surf a 9'6" longboard and I use the foam block racks that strap down onto your existing roof rack system. I've been using it for 2 years now and no problems and its seen major highway travel.

not exactly what I use but close..

You could also use the foam pipe insulation from Home Depot or Lowe's and wrap around the rails, then tie down. The insulation is cheap and it should withstand the weather well.

i like it! good idea! I am gonna get started on this project!

Thanks!
