slide hammer with 3 jaws is how I have always done it on the drives side of the TTB diff

You could also pull the diff! LOL

they are a PITA
getting the new one in is also a PITA

I have never had to do the pass side of the IFS diff but I imagine its similar to the TTB D side... nothing will get in there other then the 3 jaw puller slide hammer..

Dropping the diff again wasn't on my list of things to do, doing it once in a week is enough

The 3 jaw puller will not fit, the first part they gave me was wrong, apparently o'reilly's has the wrong part number and they can't find the right seal. So we went to napa and they had the right one, and there's a metal ring around the outside that mates up with the outside of the diff, got a screwdriver in there and worked the seal out that way.

Oh-you might try-if you have it-to rub an emery cloth-or sandpaper in the tube, and then on the seal rim just to deburr them a bit. It might help.

You really need another hand or 2

It's all buttoned up and everything is going fine. There was a vibration while turning right, but it's gone away:dunno: so well see if it comes back, the leak seems to be gone so that's good. I am going to missing spinning the tires of the line and scratching 2nd though:( but it'll keep my from buying tires every other month which is a good thing.

The normal seal puller should get in to the seal, stick it in sideways a little if needed.

My Ford tech told me a tip I had never heard before. My first front axle leaked from a new left seal, my guy suggested that the spring on the seal may have been pushed off while installing the seal. They at Ford pack a little grease in the back of the seals when they install them. Put the grease in with the spring, it will help to keep the spring from being popped out.

I got a water pump today, $91 total for the 302. Regards,

I didn't even know a seal puller existed, guess I'll be picking one of those up, but it wouldn't have worked for that seal. the axle comes right up almost flush with housing there probably wouldn't be any room to get it in behind the seal. I think that's part of why it had the metal rim that goes over the diff case so that it can be pried off?

I've removed two of those RH seals, admittedly both on the ground. The first still had the inner axle in it, the puller slips right between the axle and the seal. It's a great tool, maybe $10. Those inner axles pull out, they have a snap ring on them which holds by tension. They aren't easy to get out when you can't get a hold of them. The seal puller may help with that also.
