Need to replace my engine

Any suggestions on which way to go? Drained the oil and all kinds of metal in it so engine noise and metal in the engine guess it's time to do something. Should I get one from a wrecked truck and change out the normal things that go bad or a long block.

4l? If you aren't willing to pull the wrecker engine apart and replace the timing set then I would just go with a referb.

Yeah my bad the 4L. That's what i was thinking is buy that do the the timing set and go on for hopefully a good amount of time.what timing set do you recommend?

Cloyes sees to be Hit and miss. Some guys love em, some guys have problems. If you want the best go OEM.

You'll also need the special OTC 6488 tool to time the cams. It'll run you around 200, unless you can find someone to let you borrow it or have a tool rental place near you that has it. If you do have to buy it, you could probably sell it pretty easily on here to another ST owner.

I would only use the latest version Ford parts for this. Too much downside to offset the minor cost savings compared to the work involved
