i have a 99 explorer 4.0 and when I left the house yesterday everything was fine and at the gas station ( stopped to put air in a tire) the car would not initially start, it would kinda turn over but not it sounded like I needed to give it gas but on the 5th or so try it started up. I went to work and was worried about getting home but it started right up just like it had earlier in the day... now today it isn't starting at all im not even getting the turn over I was yesterday I know its not a battery problem and the only engine light I ever remember getting in my years of owning the car is for a pcv value so this is a new thing to me... thanks for any input

It's hard to say without being there, but I had a similar pattern of problems before my alternator completely died on me in my 96. But before jumping that gun, how do you know it's not a battery problem? Have you tried reading the output voltage on the battery? Would save you a lot of money if all you had to do was charge her up with a jumper box. (though I would still plan to replace the battery if it's not staying charged)

i couldn't get your links to work...

the voltage was a little low on the battery and when we got it goin again it was being charged by the alternator so I went to get a new battery and put it in and it started then went to get gas and it took a couple times to start took it home and today got nothing again... I thinkin it might be fuel related whether its a pump or a filter im not sure

check fuel-pump electrical connection on top of tank,,, fuel filter, pump may be dying.

Check your battery and starter connections and wires for corrosion. Your starter could also be on it's way out and drawing to many amps. When you said "today you got nothing" did you mean it wouldn't even turn over?

I had a similar problem that turned out to be my IAC valve. Replaced and had no problems. Actually the exact same problem. Very easy to replace

Follow the no start procedures! When you say hard to start, do you mean the engine doesnt want to turn like weak battery, or do you mean it cranks just fine but engine sputters and wont catch without multiple tries or feathering the gas pedal?
