Hi all, I'm new to both this forum and owning a sport trac, just got mine 6 hours ago. I've been watching this forum for a week or two now and this is what put me over the edge to get one, so thank you all. I got a question though; the truck I got is 4x2, I really wanted a 4x4 but at my budget I couldn't take the risk of messing it up since I wouldn't have the time/money to fix it, and of course the lack of 4x4:. So I was wondering if I were to go four wheeler riding how well will the truck handle mud wet grass and other stuff like that? I got stock rims and they are putting on new tires for me for free so I don't know what kind of tires I'll have, but I'm sure nothing extreme at all. My dad has a '95 f-150 and it does not like anything for the concrete. Any info would be awesome!! Thank y'all

Just use common sense. Wet grass is fine just make sure that the ground is hard. As for mud I wouldnt trust it depending how thick it is.

yea I figured that,been out in mud before just not with this vehicle. I got geolander a/ts on from the dealer, btw. So yea I was just seeing if anyone had any experience with 4x2 or stories or whatever.

No point in off-roading a 4x2 unless you put a locker in the rear axle.

I did some research on lockers in the forum and found aussie lockers. When I went to there installation section the 8.8 installation errored so I couldn't see them. My concern is: 1. how reliable are they, are there better ones? 2. What's the install like time/difficulty wise? Thanks for the help thus far. Trying not to annoy, just no one here (North LA) takes a second help college students with questions.

your 4x2 might have a factory limited slip. Mine does, its not great but better than a open dif.

I did some more digging and checked my door jam the code read 46. So I looked up the codes--> 46..... Open 8.8"..... 3200..... 3.73. So I guess the aussie will work. I understand the 94-2000 explorer 8.8 is the way to go?

That's the same axle you already have. A 31 spline 8.8".
