New Camaro Concept

any idea on when its supposed to be out (or if it really will be) and engine options? it needs at least the 400 horse motor from the vette...or maybe that 500 hp 427 from the new vette zo6 :D

GM is under some kind of contract that they cannot build a car faster than the Corvette. So, even if they do put the same motor in, they will choke it down like they did back in...I think it was about '93-'94 (if memory serves it was an LT1), where a chip and a few mods made that years comode z28 fast as hell, but production stock could not be faster than the vette.

Theyre saying ls1... like i previously stated

what the ????

At first I didnt like the mustang(mainly the rear end) but it has grown on me.
The Charger(69 Charger is my dream car...orange for some reason :p ) made me cry
The Challenger I was VERY impressed by(never TOO big on the classic, as I was in Charger envy) and I would definetely consider if I was ever buying a new car and had the cash.

But this??? I love the 69 Camaros but this is almost as bad as the charger! The front is really throwing me off, and I am not too big on the rear either. You suck, Chevy. :thumbdwn:

It looks great from the side or front corner like the first pic but the front looks wrong in the second. Just like the new mustang the rear looks like they just sort of threw something together after all that work on the front.
Also, it looks cramped. Having owned a 98 stang and a 97 camaro, I am convinced the mustang sold so much better in part because it wasnt a pain in the butt to get in and out of. I drove the explorer so much more because it was easy to get in and out of and more comfortable. Also, Im pretty sure my LT1 camaro with a 6 speed was faster than than an LT1 vette auto I drove for awhile. Its only like 15 horsepower between them. I guess thats why they went to the LT4 then LS1 ahead of the camaro, to keep it faster. Vettes also are not comfortable. At least the C4s. Lastly, I hate how they do a cool retro look to the outside and then a funky interior that looks so euro modern. :(

I like it... I don't like it as a retro... I like it because muscle cars need hard lines, I like the mustang for the same reason, the same hard lines that make people crazy for a 69 mustang/camaro today, make the new car appealing. I dont like soft lines and aerodynamic blah blah, save it for hondas and mitsu's, the weedeater motor needs all the help it can get. I want it to look like it forced its way to the end of the track using 350-400hp, not "kept up" with 150-200. thats my opinion..

and in reference to cashing in on the past... every time you apply for a job you use your resume to try and look good enough to get that job, why shouldn't carmakers remind us of first years when power was on-tap and cars could go straight to the strip from the dealership and hit 13's? IMO thats what a muscle car should do, look like raw power, remind you of it, excite you and make you want to see if it's as good as the name its trying to carry on... thats my opinion, FWIW.

At Least it's a 2-Door!

I'd have to see one in person for sure, but I am not "hyped" from the pics.

...

Of course I didn't get hyped about the C6 from pics, but in person I think ther're pretty sweet. I'll have to wait and see.

I like it. It's the new era of muscle cars. Chargers, Camaros, Mustangs, this is great. Maybe we'll see a new Firebird from Pontiac. Hopefully they don't screw it up like the did with that Sunfire/ GTO thing they are trying to pass off.

I had an 80 Firebird and still kick myself for selling it. It would be cool to see a new version.

As long as it doesn't look like the last one... I hated these.

What is GM thinking?

They stop production of the Firebird/Camaro because of slumping sales. Is a retro-fit styling going to bring back customers? Well I guess it did with the Mustang, but the Mustang is true to it roots...the Camaro is not as much. The SSR "concept" is not making money.

Gm brings back the GTO with zero connection to the past in styling.....Impala same thing. They have had some styling blunders.......AZTEK. The Envoy XL (strange proportions) has been canned. Seems like they are in copy mode...HHR-PT cruiser.

What is next a retro "Chevette"...because of the gas prices?

hell yes, a new chevette diesel with direct injection. The old ones were good for 40 mpg and that was 25 years ago. Plus the clout of telling everyone you own a 'vette. :D

Also, that blue green camaro was exactly what I owned, same color and everything, Look at how low the roof is, I clocked my head on it a couple times getting in in a hurry. The new one would need to be more accessable. The people who truly remeber the original are not spring chickens anymore.

I hope they bring back the 'Camino :D

Ford's had the Falcons in Australia forever! I wish they'd bring it back to the states. They have a version like the old Ranchero.... The FPV Falcons look like the size of a Contour with a 400hp V8 RWD. And those were made like 2 years ago.

The more I look at it, the more it looks like an 80's Monte Carlo SS

Well I went to the Detroit Auto Show and saw the Camero and the presentation on it as well as the challenger and the Shelby( ) I think as said above it needs more power and i think a solid rear axle insteard of this IRS crap. Shelby got it right again 475 Torque and ponnies with a solid rear end that you can turn off the LS(or what ver they call it) and the guy at the show said the rear end lights up :burnout: . With the Camero they are trying to hard to make it a car that gets good gas millage but is a performence car. All this shuts off the clyender crap with 400+ hp you dont get good gas milage it just doesnt work that way. :thumbdwn: BTW in the words of my Father "walking through the GM section in the show was like walking through why Gm is dying) Ity is also as said above a very large car.

The Challenger is speced for IRS??:(

well, the window profile is sweet! oh wait, its completely lifted from the '69... the rear fenders are sick too- too bad the rest of it is the same crap cadillac can't sell.

Yep, its on the same platform as the Charger/300C/old Mercedes E-Class. That platform has performed great, even with upwards of 500 horses in it so no reason to change now.
