It might soon be time to get a new SUV, but have no fear, my current X now becomes a full-time project truck.
I was just curious about what you guys thought about the potential of a sport truck in the new X or the escape. I see much more potential in the escape, but just wondering what john q. public thought. Anybody know of anything already made that fits either?

definately go with the escape.
looks nicer, drives nicer, and it's gaining popularity fast (while the explorer's is fading fast).
i test drove the Tribute (same thing) and loved it. my next vehicle is a tough decision. it's a toss up between a Tribute/Escape and a Subaru WRX.

go with the escape. i saw an article a few months back in muscle mustangs and fast fords on an escape that was dropped, and they painted all the greay paneling to match the truck, and rims, and it was supercharged. looked pretty damn sweet.

The only advantage I see in the Explorer is more rear cargo space; itf that is not an issue I would look real hard at the escape.

Goos luck.....

we just ordered a black escape with black leather 16" wheels and the mach 460. Can't wait to take delivery. It will run low 16s in the quarter bone stock and easily outhandle almost every suv. With a few choice mods 18s, intake, exhaust to begin with it will be a great choice and much more practical here in phoenix for me. It should get gas mileage in the 20s where my x get 10-12. I say go with the escape, and you will if you test drive one.

The thing is ... you can get some serious HP and torque out of the 6 cyl in the Escape, especially if you supercharge it, but you will always have a traction problem. You have to remember it is front WD

Looks like i was thinking like everyone else. Rear cargo room isn't that big of an issue so i guess it looks like the escape is the one. Anybody know bhp and torque on escape?

i believe its about 205 hp and 216 lb feet. but I might be wrong about the torque.

There are a few articles on tight escapes in the October issue of Today's SUV magazine. One is about an "Escape Scepter R", the other is "Kenne Bell's Supercharged Ford Escape". Among the many modifications is a Kenne Bell Supercharger which lead to 268 hp (215 @ rear wheels). In the end their Escape ran the 1/4 in 14.41 @ 98.88 and did 0-60 in 5.9! Sounds pretty good to me. It looks awesome too...lowered with 18's. Anyway, just wanted to let you know, maybe the article's could give you some ideas.

Where can I get some of those black leather wheels? Sounds kinky.

What size is the V6? I was looking at a SUV magazine and saw a supercharged V6 escape. There was a pic of it smoking the crap out of the front tires. Why the hell did they make that front wheel drive? Is it avail. in 4WD? I think I'm gonna try to find out more about that supercharger kit. You think it would work on a SOHC?

Wow really? You guys like that Escape?

It scares the hell outta me, it looks like a lifted Subaru and they straight up stole the brake lights and bumper from a wagoneer.

They do come with 4wd though right? Or at least AWD.

I dont like them just because I look at a Ford truck and think "off road", but thats just me. Those rear A arms look like they would break if you hit a pothole, ala Honda CRV style.

Maybe I;ll got drive one and check out these magazine articles......Of course teh new Explorer leaves just as much to be desired.....

The new Explorer 4 doors will (and are) gaining more aftermarket support than ever before. Explorers are NOT fading away, they're gaining ground in the sport truck area. I'll get flamed for this, but to me an Escape is a newer Geo Tracker. Ever seen a Tracker done-up, lowered, wire wheels, etc? Looks ridiculous. I feel the same about the Escape. It just doesn't have the looks to be a cool sport truck.

Yeah thats might be true about the new Explorer's gaining ground in the street scene but what about us mid size 4x4 guys? Is Ford gonna leave us hanging? All those BFG tire ads with that Kgnarley tube framed Ford beast and they just keep popping out "street" trucks.

BRING BACK THE BRONCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

think they heard that one?

Otherwise it;s gonna be "Serious Toyota and Jeep Explorations"

Oh and dont say "what about the Superduty?"

You cant wheel a Superduty on the trails here in Colorado, it wont fit between the trees.....

They come in AWD, no low range:(

our escape is painted and some of the parts are on it. hartman, hold your tongue until you see pics in a few days

I had a 3.0L in my probe and that hauled major a$$. I think the escapes look too much like the CRV but the one I saw in that picture looked pretty sweet lowered with rims.

If ford has the EXplorer, EXpedition, and EXcursion... why did they spell the Escape with an S? I think it should have been Excape. Just my .02.
