The title says it all - I just replaced the FPR in my 91, and all seemed to go well at first. took out the two bolts, unplugged the vacuum line on the bottom, then pressed in the tabs to slide the top fuel line (plastic end on braided hose) - installation went smooth, light coat of engine oil on the o-ring, torqued down the two bolts, plugged in vacuum, and slid the top line back on.

Started up the truck after pushing it out of the garage, and watched for leaks.......yup..... drip drip drip likely from the o-ring seat onto the lower manifold. I cannot see any fuel coming from the top connection, although to me it seemd to slide on rather easily......

So, i took it back off, re-checked everything, swapped out the o-ring from the old one, reinstalled. Strated back up and was fine for about 15 seconds, then drip drip drip again.

Please if anyone could help me with this - I have to drive it to work in a few hours......

Ok, my bad.... it is leaking from the top line, not the o-ring.

I've managed to wiggle it so it stops, but if i move it again, back to square one. Can I drive it to the auto parts store without exploding ;-) ?

Is a new fuel line in my future?

Thx!!!!

Not sure but

I thought the 91 had a pigtail from the top of the regulator. Something like that made them different from the 92+ years. My 92 came with two O rings. Couldn't figure the difference out but no leaks. There shouldn't be any pressure on the return line. You might try a loose gas cap so there isn't any tank pressure.

The 92 return line threads on. If the 91 is a push on connector, look inside the connector for an O ring out of place or a metal barb. Lubricate the connector surface and try making the connection again.

The '91's had a worthless fuel connector on them that (as you have found out) leak after they have been disturbed. I have yet to find any way to fix the problem. Sorry!

I imagine I have stumbled across the first thing that couldn't be fixed with duct tape.....

So far, the leak seems to have stopped (you were right Opera House - it's the 'push-on' type).
I peered inside, and could not see any form of o-ring there; just the metal circlip that is supposed to clamp on the shaft.

If I move it around, it starts leaking again. I took it for a quick spin, and so far its holding. At least enough to get me to work, and I'll deal with possibly getting a new line and connector tomorrow. I'm just fearful that a lake of fuel will develop on my manifold if I hit a bump or something.

Thanks very much for the prompt replies everyone; the people here are what makes this board what it is!

They sell replacement clips to go inside your presseure fitting. Its a sort of spring. They sell a packagfe of 2 or 3 at most good autoparts stores.
Just ask for a 91 fuel line fitting (same as the filter I believe) pressure fitting replacement.

Your other option is to go to the junk yard or replace the whole line.

I am not sure if the 91 is the same as the 93-94 when it comes to the FPM but if they are perhapse they chaged the fitting.......

Also you whould have the correct tool to remove the line, otherwise it will get damaged....

They can be tricky on those trucks! The filter can take 5 minutes or 20....
