2011 Ford Explorer
Hello Everyone,
I’m hoping for some help with a frustrating problem. My rear view camera stopped working so I just replaced it with a New Ford camera but the active lines are not working. I was told I may need a sync update.
My Explorer is a 2011 Limited with the original My Sync software.
Is this camera problem a software problem? My camera shows the green, yellow and red lines but not the active white lines when I am backing up.

I don't have an answer for you as I am having a problem with my camera as well. (feel like I'm beating a dead horse on this cam issue) Your lucky it lasted 8 years. Mine is a 2014 XLT and lasted about a day out of warranty. Was your old cam only working about 50% of the time? And aside from the active white lines (not even sure what that is, mine never had them) is the new cam turning on and off as it should? Its killing me to blow $300 on a new cam and then find out its something else. I pulled it out, cleaned everything, used dielectric grease on the contacts, inspected the wiring going through the chrome trim, everything seems in order but still only works maybe 50% of the time.

You need to have your camera programmed to your vehicle. That can be done using FORScan or the dealer can do it using their IDS tool. In other words, it's a software issue. There have been a few MFT updates since the original one. I suggest bringing yours up-to-date.

The Active Guidelines Lines on an Explorer work in conjunction with the Active Park Assist featurewhich you probably do not have.

There has to be a sensor or switch in the stick shift to activate the camera when shifting into reverse. Has anyone found that to be the problem? Its annoying because my camera works 50% of the time. If it just stopped working all together then I would be more confident that its the camera and not something else. The cost of a new camera is prohibitive for "seeing" if that's the problem.

Hi Everyone, I'm having intermittent issues with my camera as well, 2014 Sport. Like the previous post said it works about 50% of the time. I just took it in for an estimate at the Ford dealer here in Colorado Springs, they quoted me $1,000.00 to fix! Unbelievable, I'm just going to live with the issue.

Several members have replaced it themselves but it still has to be programmed to the vehicle. That can be done via FORScan or your dealer if you chose to replace it. 2013-2015 Ford Rear Camera EB5Z-19G490-A | Auto Nation Ford White Bear Lake

Update on my Camera. I finally pulled the trigger and bought the more expensive one on Amazon for $287.88 because they said its an OEM camera however, It didn't look OEM. I wish I took a picture of the label but it definitely said Made in China. It was packaged loosely in a ragged Ford cardboard box. I would think for nearly $300 it would have been packaged better. Anyway, it was extremely easy to replace. This would have been my second time removing the cam because the first time I tried cleaning things which didn't work. So the second time literally took me about 5 minutes. And I didn't break any tabs. VERY easy DIY project. Don't let Ford rip you off anymore. They already ripped us all off with a poor quality vehicle. The lines were still there, mine don't move, never did which is fine. I find it annoying on other vehicles. The only thing I lost was the rectangular box that would appear as you got REALLY close to something which again was annoying because when I would back up to a trailer that rectangular box would hide the receiver on the trailer so I couldn't see it. So I'm glad its gone. Oh, and BTW, the picture on my screen now is definitely not as clear as the original cam. So if your inclined to buy on Amazon to save some $, I have a feeling the cam for $159 is exactly the same cam as the one I bought boasting an OEM cam. Don't be fooled like I was.

I got a cheap unit from ebay for 40 bucks and that thing has been working for4 yrs for now. It funny as the dealer wanted 110 to diagnostic charge . The ebay unit fit in straight forward and there is salt in the winter and it works to freezing temp . i did use a globs of dieletric greeze on all contacts

Sorry, I don't have the answer. I don't use FORScan but I'm sure there are some members that may be able to help.
In a list I subsequently found/checked there is a CMR (Camera Module Rear). Rear Camera - No Guidelines Show
