Hello,

I have recently acquired a '96 Ranger and I'm looking for advice/help on how to build/adapt/customize/make awesome my little truck for off roading. I'm thinking more trail than rock crawling or mudding. Something that'll support me as I look to spend more time outdoors, whether camping, backpacking, rock climbing, or hunting. :feedback:
Any advice or tips will be much appreciated.

Custom bumpers, winch, some lights, 2-3" of lift, 33" all terrains, 2" hitch receiver, quick release sway bar disconnects, and a locker. Should get you just about anywhere imaginable.

If you are broke like me, all terrains, and a winch should be good enough to make you happy. Just be ready to use that winch more and you might have to improvise or just not attempt some things.

More info on the truck would be helpful, if you don't have factory skid plates you should probably invest in those as well. Gear ratio is important as well, if you got a tall factory gear, then a regear might be worth the investment. Engine size to, if you got anything other than the 4.0 v6 I'd suggest some power adders. Exhaust, tuner, and a regear might be needed badly. Oh, rocksliders never hurt, can be used as a step and body protection. Plus if you plan on a exocage in the future, you can just tie it into the rocksliders in the future.

BTW, how hardcore offroad are you talking about? I'm only 2wd and don't have problems with my offroad adventures. But that generally doesn't include anything to bad, just lots of slick clay here in Georgia :(

Have fun and be prepared to spend some cash :D

It's a manual 4wd w/ the stock 3.0l v-6.

mostly trail runnin, w/ a bit of pure off roading in more open forest, or in the desert (i live in north carolina/ and will drive to illinois or socal from time to time) ... so i s'pose the occasional light rock crawl won't be out of the question.

I appreciate the feedback, colintrax
