I know this has probably been asked before, but i can't find a possible thread so here go. I am looking into doing a TT/Shackle/AAL on my 98 sport. I want to do 32's on my stock 16 inch rims. I don't know much about the whole conversion on the tire size so i need help.

I have a good understanding on the TT/Shackles/AAL installation, my biggest issue is with Tire Sizes. I

with just TT/Shackles/AAL-you could fit 30's easy, 31's would fit-minimal rub-32's would fit but with a lil' rub (you would have to trim your inner fender wall) they do fit though-i have done the same thing minus AAL!

do you have 15's or 16's on your X

15's

i'm trying to figure out what the size equivalent would be for 32's on a 16 inch rim.

do you mean like (stock) 235/75r15 but in 32's?

if so i don't know-my tire reads 32x11.5x15

yea, the stock 16 inch rims.

ya ok, i get what your asking, but i'm not sure what size you would need.....

section525-

When you put 32's on your X with the TT/Shackles/AAL did you have to do any trimming??

Ohhhh yeah! I can to cut metal!

See my fender on the table in the background? I was 2WD back then too though. I know Digger196 is running the exact same setup I use to have (TT/Shackles/32" MTs) and I think hes doing it okay.

It really all depends on the Explorer.

31" Help?

Time is short and I tried to find answers in search but am coming up dry...
Long story short, dealer is recommending against going 31s on a 15" rim, saying you can't adjust some things to really make it work well, and those that make the change are probably having problems/harming their vehicles. "You'll have problems with ABS, Speedometer and tranny shifts".
What's the field say??? I liked the apten upgrade, and was hoping to move a tire size without hassles too? I'm not going 33s, just 31s, stock, no lift...
Thanks.. I hate sweating things late in the day/week... basically have a day to find the "real" facts?

Thanks for the info. I'll probably be doing the TT/Shackles/AAL in the next couple of months. I just needed to get an idea of what i was getting into when i start shopping for tires this summer hopefully.

Dude.. your dealer is full of it. Everyone and their mama has 31's on this site with no problems! If he's really saying he doesn't reccommend 31" tires on a 15" rim.. he knows nothing. You can put any tire (almost) on a 15" rim. It's the width you need to worry about. But 31's on your stock Ex will be perfectly okay.

Don't do what I did and get tires too big, then having to end up lifting it (making the tires too small now)! :D Figure what size tires you want and go from there. Also, remember, you'll always want to go bigger. If you think you want 31's.. you want 32s. If you think you want 32's.. you want 33s! :D

I want 32's because with the lift i am going for, it looks the best.

Were the 32's to big for the TT/Shackle/AAL setup.

On mine.. I'd say they were close to being too big. I had some special circumstances back then having a bent frame and all. It was actually only too big on ONE side of the truck.

But check out Digger's site. He has info about his setup.
