I’m new to the whole idea of posting problems, so please bare with me. I have 2 issues that are completely different so any info on either would be greatly appreciated. Issue #1. My check engine light is now on all the the time. I took it it and had it scanned and the code reader says it’s the catalytic converter. After looking online it looks as though there’s 3 converters on this vehicle? Will I need to replace all 3?
problem #2.Over the weekend, I had been driving and after a short stop may 10 min. When I turned the key it clicked like a dead battery. I finally got it to start after a couple min. I took to the auto parts store in my town, he put a checker on and said the alt. Was good then he load tested the battery. It also checked good.
The problem hasn’t returned since. Are their any ideas?

First off we hae no idea if you have a 1991 or a 2020 Explorer. Filling out your profile with your vehicle info helps everyone, and posting in the forum that is specific to your model and year helps even more.

Thanks and welcome to the forum.

I'm pretty sure there's only two cats.

I'm pretty sure there's only two cats.

There might be three cats. Not sure if there is one final one back down the tailpipe towards the muffler. There's definitely an integrated exhaust manifold-cat on each side of the engine. You pull the exhaust and the studs out of the head to do them. What's the code number when you read it? Pxxxx, something like that, x=numbers.

Agree with ROF, we need the specific OBD2 trouble code. I'm wondering if you just need a downstream O2 sensor. Cats don't tend to fail this early in the life of a vehicle unless you have some other problem causing it (except possibly rust-through), so I would not put new cat(s) on until you find the original source of the problem. For example is it misfiring or burning an excessive amount of oil?

Intermittent electrical/starting problems can be a pain to track down, but for now since the battery and alt. tested good, I'd try removing and cleaning the battery cable clamps and battery terminals.

I agree with @J_C . OBD codes are gold in getting help where you need it. There is a ton of guys in here that Id trust over the parts guys at the counter sometimes LOL

For the starting issue, mine did this one time but it was because I took my foot off the brake too quick and it tried to start but it didnt turn over. Had a wait a minute and then I could start it. Now I just hold the brake till its all up and running just to be safe lol

^ ?? I don't have to hold down the brake on my 2014 to start it.

What?! I do... If i dont it just goes into acc mode and tells me to put my foot on the brake..

@J_C Does your's have push button or key start

Holding the brake is required on the push button, but not on the key style. My 14 Sport with push button goes into accessory mode if I don't hold the brake when pressing the button. If I press the button a 2nd time without the brake, it goes into 'run' mode where all the dash, hvac...etc turn on, but engine does not start.

Probably should have asked if he/she really has a 2014 as the user info on the left says he/she has a 1998?????

Oh well, best of luck to those that come here for actual help. This thread is a doozie and there's only 11 posts....

Must be it, my '14 has key start.

Recently i had check engine light and took it to get scanned on my tundra. 3 ABS sensor failure on the sensor. WHen you have multiple funkyness its something to do with voltage issue. Anyway they gave me a 3k bill ofcourse. i told them what is the probability that 3 sensors go at the same time. Changed the battery and never had any issues. these battery check machine are not calibrated to detect minor voltage issues. the tundra did the die on me in my backyard listening to music as i was raking and loading leaves into the bed. Just throwing it out there.
