2004 Sport Trac
I joined today because I am looking at a 2004 Sport Trac 4wd with the sport package and what looks like everything except leather seats. I have been a Dodge guy for years and the only Ford I have owned was an "89" Bronco II. I was wondering if there was anything in particular I should look for when I go to the dealer tomorrow. Also, what is everyone's general impression of this truck? How is the real world mileage? Tire wear? My Bronco used to eat tires like crazy. I will be looking at the forum for most of the day today. I am guessing I am supposed to be looking in the 95 to 01 section correct? If so why is that? Thanks for any help y'all

Welcome to the Forum

If your looking at information for a 2004 then you are looking at a 3rd Gen Explorer. The 95-01 Explorers are 2nd Gen Explorers.

Does the Sport Track you are looking at have the 4.0 V6 or the 4.6 V8?

welcome

The truck has the 4.0L. I have been reading all day about the trucks. I actually covered 24 pages of threads so I am a little overloaded right now:confused: . I have come to the conclusion that the ST is going to get somewhere between 15-19mpg average. I live on the coast where it is flat so that should help. There also doesn't seem to be any one thing to really look out for when buying one of these since I am not looking at the 01's correct? What kind of lifespan should I expect out of the 4.0? I am coming from a Cummins diesel so 200000 seems like a normal number to me. I am assuming I can expext major repairs to start in the 100000 mile range or so.

I had 89000 miles on the Bronco when I traded it for a truck. It was still running like a champ but most of the power options didn't work too well and the paint was coming off in sheets.

BTW, I found the ST specific portion of the forum. That was very helpful.
