These things are super rare:

I saw one on eBay several months ago. I made a move on it, but someone beat me to it ("Best Offer" bid). The seller told me he gets them now and again and I found another last night by accident. Had been on there for a few months actually so it's not like people were beating down his door to take it off his hand.

Someone mentioned that Ford produced these but never put them into full production. Anyone else know the story on them?

It is the first nice one I've seen though. I saw a dilapidated one a while back-on an explorer intake.

I didn't pay full pop. I offered $20 less than his asking price and he took it. Still pricey, but he does nice work (I'm happy with the standard one I have on there now). I remember him telling me it takes him a few days to send out because he actually "makes them to order", so I asked if he'll do it in red.

I keep seeing it described as the "intake plaque". I think we're talking about the same thing. It's the plaque on the 5.0 that usually says "5.0L V8". The "Explorer V8" rendition seems quite rare.

It's been years since I first saw those. It may have been in a Mustang magazine, MM&FF. Likely in an intake test article, but it isn't generic enough for all Mountaineers.

I did the exact same to my intake plaque in my maroon body color. Painted the whole thing then scuffed and sanded the raised parts leaving bare metal, then clearcoat.

There is a seller who makes one with a large Ford emblem engraved in it. He could likely do other things. That one is on there for $35-40 now.
