No Power

Went out to leave and turned ignition over and the truck was dead. Just a clicking noise coming from the rear of truck in where the jack is stored. There is no power. Please help with any ideas!!

did u try to jump the battery? if u did then im of no help sorry. but i hope u get it fixed promptly

Yes, we did and the battery is showing 12 amp. We are now going to just unhook the battery, then rehook it up. We have no clue what's going on

sounds like a dead battery.

If its not the battery, next thing to check is the ground cable that goes to the battery.

Also you can search these forums and find that all this has been covered many times.

So you get nothing (aside from the click sound)??

12 amps or 12 volts? Do you get any power to the instrument panel? If not, I'm thinking your wires may be corroded. The 1st generations Xs are known for having the battery terminal wires go bad.

Try cleaning your terminals and your posts and see what happens.

I am thinking it is the battery, as a fully charged one should be 12.6 - 13.2 volts, not just 12 volts. Check out this site. http://www.inct.net/~autotips/batterm.htm Good luck. Joe

As mentioned earlier, it's possible that the battery cables have corroded internally. That is a known issue with the early Explorers. You can't tell by looking at them that they are bad, but they will have a high resistance when tested.

It is also possible to have a bad battery read 12V. It may hold the voltage, but have no capacity for current draw. Take the battery somewhere and have it tested.

There are also fusible links in the system. If one of them has blown, it can also cause your problem. Check your owners manual for the location of the fusible links and check them for continuity.
