No Reverse!!

99 Ranger Off Road, 4.0 V6, Automatic, 152,000mi

Sunday I was backing out of the drive & heard a bang underneath me. Stopped immediately to make sure I didn't run over something, but all was clear. When I went to continue on my way, I had no reverse. All other forward gears & 4x4 Hi & Low worked, just no reverse. No extra grinding or banging, just the 1 shot.

Rangers & Explorers are similar & I've gotten help on here before w/4x4 hubs, so I'm leaning on you guys for help now.

Any ideas? Can just a gear or part of the tranny go out & be fixed easily without scrapping the whole trans? Any other tips/tricks/help/advice is welcome.

Welcome to this forum! Test the rear band by inserting a long phillips screwdriver into the bore from the low/reverse servo. You will have to drop the pan, square cover with 4 bolts, and the rear low/reverse servo. A broken shift fork in the transfer case might be another possibility.
