Anyone use the stuff, good experience bad experience? Any washing and waxing tips other than wait till the vehicle looks "hazy"

Wow, I scrolled right over that entire forum. I feel like a dumba$$ now haha. Atleast the Mets are gonna win again.

The moderator of the detailing forum is a Phillies fan. One who was on Market (and later Broad) that wonderful night in 2008. Watch yourself.

I use NuFinish on the two vehicles I park outside. It puts a decent shine on the vehicles, and it is very durable. You won't get the finish that you would get out of one of the top waxes/polishes, but it is great for a vehicle that spends it's life out in the elements.

Ummmm...how many World/Division championships have the Mutts won lately??? :p::p::p::p:

The last time they won I wasn't even a twinkle in my daddys eye. Atleast the Jets are closer than the Iggles to the Superbowl. :)

I used it on my dads car today since I'll be using that till my rents buy a new smaller SUV, for a neglected car it brings the shine up pretty good in about a week or two I'm gonna go over it with Meguiers, unless someone says its a bad idea.

Once you've waxed, you're not going to get more 'shine' with another product unless you claybar / strip the old wax and start over with a polish...

NuFinish was great, but it's an old product- probably 20+ years old in formula. There have been a lot of products that will surpass in durability and shine for not much more money. ($10-$15 per bottle)

I'm partial to Megs products, but I'm a bit more specific about the look of my vehicles than most... :)

I use Meguiars and Mother's carnuba on my Mustangs, Meguiars on the Mach and Mother's on the '66. Both of them far outshine NuFinish, but neither one of those lasts near as long as NuFinish does.

you could also use floor wax it would last as long as Nu Finish,
and be even cheaper,,

i would say get a good wax if you want a good shine,,

unless you claybar / strip the old wax and start over with a polish...

i saw a commercial for that not too long ago i thoutght about trying that, but from the commercial it looked like it took off a layer of the clearcoat which make me rethink useing them.

anyone tried them?

lol but sorry for the thread hijack, i like to use black magic, everyonce in a while i'll but their complete detail kit and the results are really nice :D

Clay doesn't strip clearcoat. It strips off old wax and the contaminants embedded in the paint. Run your hand over your car when wet- if it doesn't feel like a clean piece of glass, it needs a claybar treatment. I've been claying cars for years, and roccomend it constantly. If you wax without claying, you're simply waxing the contaminents into the paint, and they work further and further in as time goes by.

Even if you're going to use Nu-Finish (which really isn't a bad wax) clay first and get the junk off your paint.

This was my old '95 with raildust (small metal shavings from driving/transport that embed themselves in the paint over time and rust)

Hop over to the Meguiars forum too- LOTS of good info there.

Here is a shot of both- clean on top, dirty in the emblem before I took it off and clayed the rest. You can see what the claybar removes...

Alright, since I missed a few spots I'm just gonna re-wash and wax the car this week and use Meguiers stuff, other than just a hose and a bucket with car wash anyone have products that are relatively cheap to make the wash nicer?

Also, those electric buffers I see at Wal-Mart all the time, are they any good? or even worth it for that matter?

Thanks for the help guys, as far as in depth detailing I'm pretty much a noob.

For soap, just gather up a jug of the Megs Gold Class wash from Wally World- foams up nicely as you wash, good conditioning and you'll use it for a year. Don't use dish soap, it'll strip wax.

Here is a good link: CLICK ME
Also a decent vid:

Here is a great vid on a two-bucket wash:

Here is a vid on claybar:

The buffers are what they are- they're not bad. I used a cheap Harbor Freight buffer for a long time- get the smaller one- the big 10" buffers are too hard to maneuver around the truck, and don't take any less time to wax. Get some microfiber cloths to wipe off, and a bottle of Meguiars NXT 2.0 Tech Wax and you'll be all set.

I have been using Nu Finish for a long long time and think it does a great job. But I must say that this whole clay bar thing is intriguing. I have watched the video and think I am going to give it a try. Raining out today but maybe tomorrow. I will post pics of the before and after. :salute:

I would recommend it. I used it on my X last year, and then waxed after...whoa, that was the smoothest I've ever felt a car. I remember tossing the rag onto the hood and it slid right off lol. I bought the Meguiar's kit with wax included and man was that thing looking good!

And to be honest, I haven't waxed it since then (I have neglected my X severely since moving away for college) and the water still beads and it looks great on the occasion that I wash it. :D

That's good to know. I assume the kit you bought was enough to do the whole X, right? Man I gotta do this! :salute:

I myself like to use Meguires but recently i have been useinf 3M wax products. I do however use the NuFinish on my snowmobile.

Yeah, it's enough do to the X multiple times. You get two clay bars, a big bottle of quick detailer, a microfiber cloth, and a sample bottle of wax that's good enough for at LEAST one full wax. The kit is called "Smooth Surface Clay Kit" it's in a red and black box with a Mustang on the front (at least that's what mine looks like, but they could've changed the box).

But yeah, you wont be disappointed. It takes a while, since you have to wash the truck, clay bar the truck, then wax it, but it's worth it. :)
