OBD1 Error 628 after Valve Body Gasket & EPC Solenoid replacement
I was having a problem where it was slipping out of gear at speed and under load. I decided to take a chance on replacing the valve body gasket and EPC solenoid as it seemed to be a common problem for the 1995-2001.
I pulled the transmission pan, dropped the valve body and the gasket was blown out. I replaced the gasket, the EPC solenoid, filter and pan gasket. Filled the system back up and drove it hard to test it out and the problem was fixed.
However, recently it started throwing an error code, turns on the flashing OD light and puts me into limp home mode.
The fist time I simply unplugged the battery and reset it.
I drove about 50 miles and it happened again.
I jumpered the ECC test port and counted my dash flashes and came out with a code 628. Excessive converter clutch slippage – Transmissions
I have read the thread on the tight tolerances on the 1995 transmission computer, but wasn't sure if I should spend the money on the newer computer.
