My 03 xlt with 4.0 with 133k obd has triggered the code of po453--EVAP sensor switch/high. Does anyone have experience with this? My local emissions station has failed me and upon investigating this switch, I found that removal of the gas tank to get to it is necessary. Whooh, don't really want to have to tackle that. Is there a shortcut out there to solving this one? Hate to have to take it in and spend the big bucks. Love this car--it's my daily ride and runs great, but with miles piling up, I hate to spend $ on something that won't effect the way it runs. Resetting the obd2 just results in the service engine light coming back on at the next start up.

Anyone had to deal with the error code 0453 for a 2003 4.0? Code reader identifies it as fuel tank high pressure sensor. Access is by dropping the fuel tank. Has anyone changed out this unit with success? I think cutting a hole in the floor would be the easiest way to go but I'm not certain my car has this sensor.

I replaced it a few years ago with a locking version. No need for a locking cap now that fuel is affordable. I'll invest in a new one.

I bought a locking cap not because of any theft concerns but because of vandalism concerns (sugar, etc).

obd2 codes

Well, I replaced the gas cap with a Dealer purchased unit and it didn't solve the problem. Any further thoughts on how to get rid of this code to get this car through emissions? I love the car but at 175k miles it's really become the family beater that I allow my teenage son to drive and we use for local errands. I hate to think of spending the required $450 for parts or repairs to get the waiver from the state to drive it for another two years. My goal is to make it to 200k miles (maybe beyond). It's gonna lose it's tranny or the timing chain is gonna jump, etc. at some time in the near future, but who knows for sure.

I'd top the tank off, clear the code, and hope it stays off long enough to pass. lol.

Does every county in your state require emissions testing? If not, register the vehicle at a family member's address in a non-emissions county. (People in Texas have to do this all the time, only the major city's require emissions testing here.)

obd2 code

The light comes back on after second start. When they hook up to the obd2 port at the inspection station, the history comes up and they will fail it. Also, they restart the car just to be sure you didn't clear the codes just before bringing it in. The inspection is statewide so no moving it to another county. Too bad, the car runs great as it is. I'll have to put on a bunch of unnecessary parts to get the waiver. And they check to see if the parts have been installed too. Bummer.

It's dumb to have to do the OBDII test, why can't they just put a sensor in the tail pipe.

Have Volkswagen write you some custom firmware, LMAO. :D
