Alright, my mom just picked up an 03' Explorer 4.0 SOHC with the 5 speed auto tranny. The OD Off light comes on and flashes after a few miles of driving. Shut the car off, and turn it back on, goes away, and comes back a few miles later. Throwing no codes at all. No shift problems at all. Goes great. 100k miles.

Im going to change the filter and fluid tomorrow and see if that changes anything. Im assuming its flashing because of incorrect pressure amounts or something.

Any other ideas?

Find and fix the problem while it's cheap and avoid driving it until it gets fixed. Continuing to drive with this condition can result in far more extensive damage to your tranny.

It IS throwing a code. When the OD light is flashing, the control systemis registering a fault. You just gotta want to know what the code is.

Good luck and fix it now. A total tranny replacement/rebuild in an '03 quickly approaches a significant percentage of the vehicle's value.

Well, changed the filter and fluid today and a few pieces of brass came out. Will be picking up a new tranny tomorrow, and will await it to go boom.
